HAMILTON, N.Y. - After an impressive preseason, the No. 3/4 Boston University men's ice hockey team will officiall kick off its 2016-17 season on Saturday (Oct. 8) when it visits Colgate for a 6 p.m. contest. Saturday's affair will be the second game played at the brand-new Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton and will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.

This is BU's first visit to Colgate since 1993 and it will be the 32nd meeting between the two schools. The Terriers are 20-11 against the Raiders and went 10-3 in 13 trips at Starr Rink. The Raiders opened their season and Class of 1965 Arena last Saturday with a 2-2 draw against Army.

The Terriers, who are opening their 95th season, won both of its exhibition contests in decisive fashion, posting a 10-2 victory against Prince Edward Island on Oct. 1 before downing the U.S. National Under-18 Team, 8-2, on Thursday.

The Terriers hold an overall record of 64-23-7 (.718) in their previous 94 season openers. Dating back to the 1989-90 season, the Terriers are 20-6-1 (.759) in their past 27 openers. Last season, BU opened with a 5-3 loss at Union. That snapped a stretch of five consecutive wins in openers, its longest streak since winning nine straight from 1989-1997.

Freshman Patrick Harper was the star of the preseason, recording eight goals and three assists over the two games. His eight goals came on just 10 shots. Of the 18 goals scored by the Terriers in the preseason, 15 were scored by freshmen. Clayton Keller posted a hat trick in the Prince Edward Island game and defenseman Chad Krys earned three assists in each contest.

Colgate's top returning point-scorer is junior Mike Panowyk, who tallied 18 points on four goals and 14 assists as a sophomore. Senior Tim Harrison and junior Evan Peterson are back after recording eight goals apiece last season. Also back is senior goaltender Charlie Finn, who started 33 contests in 2015-16 and put up a 3.28 goals-against average and an .899 save percentage.

The Terriers lost five of their top eight scorers from a year ago but the other three are an impressive trio of sophomores. Fellow sophomore Bobo Carpenter notched 12 goals last season and is the top returner in that category.
