BOSTON - After a standout season to wrap up her Boston University career, senior tri-captain
Hester van der Laan has been named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-America Second Team, as announced on Wednesday.
This is van der Laan's first All-America honor and it marks the sixth straight season that at least one Terrier has received NFHCA All-America accolades.
A standout in the midfield, van der Laan was this year's Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. She was the fourth Terrier to earn all-conference honors four consecutive seasons and was also a three-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree.
The Amsterdam, Netherland, native put together a 7-5--19 scoring line for the second consecutive year and finished her stellar career with 68 points on 25 goals and 18 assists in 81 games. Last week, van der Laan became the seventh play in program history to be named to the NFHCA All-Region First Team in three straight seasons.
The Terriers finished the 2016 season with a record of 13-6 and were ranked 15th in the final NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI).
