BOSTON - The No. 17 Boston University field hockey team will aim for a 3-0 start to the 2016 season when it hosts crosstown rival Northeastern in the home opener on Friday at New Balance Field. Game time is set for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.

The Terriers (2-0) will try to start off a season with three straight wins for the first time since 2012, when they won their first five contests. Northeastern is also 2-0, having picked up road wins at UC Davis (3-0) and California (3-2) on the west coast last weekend. Friday's tilt is the start of a five-game homestand for the Terriers.

BU already has a title under its belt, defeating No. 16 Northwestern and tournament host New Hampshire last weekend to win the season-opening Wildcast Classic. Five different players scored a goal over the weekend and senior goalkeeper Cammy Jensen combined for 15 saves to earn the tournament's most outstanding player award.

Senior tri-captain Amanda Cassera scored a goal in each game and added an assist in the championship and currently leads the team in both goals (2) and points (5). Senior Taylor Blood, junior Allie Renzi and sophomores Kara Enoch and Ally Hammel each found the back of the cage as well.

The Huskies enjoyed the exact same balanced scoring in their two wins with six goals being scored by five players. Senior Natalie Stewart scored the game winner in both victories and is tied for the team lead in points with sophomore June Curry-Lindahl, who has a goal and two assists. In goal, senior Becky Garner made four saves in each win, including a shutout at UC Davis to kick off the year.

This will be the 49th all-time meeting between the rivals with the Huskies holding a 27-21 advantage. BU has won three of the past four meetings, including a 3-2 overtime victory in Dedham last season.

It will be a two-game weekend at New Balance Field as the Terriers will also host Miami on Sunday at 1 p.m.
