September 8, 2016

BOSTON - Looking for the third 5-0 start in program history, the No. 13 Boston University field hockey team will host No. 20 Maine on Friday at New Balance Field in a match-up of 4-0 squads. Game time is set for 4 p.m.

Friday's contest will mark the middle of a five-game homestand for the Terriers, who have collected wins over Miami, Northeastern, New Hampshire and then-No. 16 Northwestern thus far this season.

BU and Maine are two of seven 4-0 teams across the country entering the weekend. The former conference mates met in Orono last season with the Terriers capturing a 2-1 road win in overtime thanks to a penalty-stroke goal by Hester van der Laan in the extra session. BU has won 29 of its 35 all-time meetings with the Black Bears.

Maine is coming off a 7-3 home win over Dartmouth on Labor Day which followed up a 4-1 triumph at Hofstra on Friday. The Black Bears are averaging 6.0 goals per game, good for second in the nation, and opened up their season with victories at home against Providence (7-1) and Sacred Heart (6-1).

Junior Madison Cummings leads the Black Bears in goals (8) and points (17) while sophomores Libby Riedl (3g, 4a) and Casey Crowley (2g, 6a) have each contributed 10 points. Seven other Maine players have scored at least one goal.

In the cage, redshirt juniors Emma Cochran and Emily Corbett have split time right down the middle and each of them boasts a 1.50 goals-against average. Cochran hasn't made a save yet while Corbett has stopped two of the five shots she has faced.

The Terriers have been paced offensively thus far by senior Amanda Cassera, who has team highs in both goals (4) and points (9). She scored both tallies in a 2-1 win over Miami in BU's most recent game on Sunday. Senior Taylor Blood and junior Allie Renzi each have two goals and an assist while sophomore Allie Doggett has a team-best two assists.

Senior Cammy Jensen has been strong in goal with a .769 save percentage and a 1.47 goals-against average. She has backstopped a BU defense that has allowed the Terriers to win all four of its games by a single goal.

Thanks to their strong start, the Terriers moved up four spots to No. 13 in this week's NFHCA national poll.
