Terriers Win Gold and Two Bronze Medals at Head of the Charles

RESULTS

BOSTON – Highlighted by a third-place finish (second among collegians) by the championship 4 boat, the Boston University men's rowing team competed in Day 2 of the 53rd Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) on Sunday. Over the two-day event, the men's rowing team recorded their highest finish ever in a HOCR championship 4 race on their way to three top-three finishes while competing against the best collegiate boats in the country.

SUNDAY RESULTS
  • Men's Championship 4  – 3rd place (15:23.21)
  • Men's Championship 8  – 11th place (13.58.62)
 
SATURDAY RESULTS
  • Men's Club 8 "A" – 1st place (14:32.58)
  • Men's Club 8 "B" - 10th place (15:08.14)
  • Men's Club 4 – 3rd place (16:37.86)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

Sunday
  • In the men's championship 4 race, BU's first varsity four boat, coxed by Justin Goucher and stroked by freshman Jacob Raillon, finished third with a time of 15:23.21. Only crews from the US National Team (15:07.44) and Cal (15:16.17) finished ahead of BU. The third-place finish was the program's highest ever in a HOCR championship race.
  • The men's championship eight boat, coxed by senior Mackenzie Hart and stroked by senior Max Ponsen, finished 11th in its race (ninth among collegians) with a time of 13:58.62 in a field of 26 boats. The varsity eight finished ahead of "A" boats from Cornell, Syracuse, Wisconsin and Stanford.
 
Saturday
  • The men's club 8 "A" boat, coxed by junior Sean Dooling and stroked by sophomore Travis Kennedy, finished first in the club 8 race with a time of 14:32.58 in a field of 36 boats. BU finished ahead of second-place Harvard (14:36.04). In the same race, the BU club 8 "B", coxed by freshman Chloe Jacobs and stroked by junior Tommaso Ferme, finished 10th with a time of 15:08.14.
  • Earlier in the day, BU finished third in the club 4 race. Coxed by junior Jeanne Garner and stroked by junior Kyle Blackburn, BU finished with a time of 16:37.86 in a large field of 52 boats.
  • Also competing for BU were several alumni boats. The men's alumni 8 boat took 10th (15:20.47), while the women's alumni 8 finished 18th (18:12.86).
