BOSTON – In a critical matchup that will help determine Patriot League tournament seeding, the Boston University men's soccer team will wrap up the regular season by hosting Colgate on Friday with action slated to begin at 5 p.m.
To support the Walmart Food Drive & Hunger Relief Program, fans that bring a canned good item will receive free admission.
The Terriers currently sit alone in first at 19 points with Loyola Maryland (18 pts.) and Lehigh (16 pts.) close behind. BU would claim the No. 1 seed and the regular season title with a win over the Raiders (10 pts.) but could finish as low as third in the seeding with a loss and other unexpected results.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU currently owns six conference wins, tying the previous high set by the 2014 (6-0-3) and 2015 (6-1-2) squads.
- The Terriers are 3-2-1 at home with all three victories coming by way of shutout – Harvard (1-0), Holy Cross (3-0) and Navy (1-0) … Their lone conference loss came against Loyola Maryland (2-1).
- They shared two non-conference opponents with Colgate … Both teams fell at UMass with the Raiders posting a 1-0 win over Princeton, who left Nickerson Field with a 1-1 draw.
- BU was shut out by Bucknell this past Saturday in a 0-0 draw … The contest marked the first time since Sept. 9 that the Terriers were unable to net a goal.
- Freshman Toti Knutsson leads the Terriers with 11 points off three goals and five assists, while sophomore Matt McDonnell owns a team-high four goals … Junior T.J. Butzke is tied with Knutsson at five assists.
- Senior Adam Sheikali, freshman Elias Lampis and freshman Peter Kargbo are the only three Terriers to have started 16 games.
- Sophomore Michael Bernardi has started all eight conference games and owns a 0.738 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average.
SCOUTING COLGATE
- The Raiders are 1-7-0 on the road compared to 5-3-1 at home with their lone win occurring at American (2-0) back on Oct. 7.
- Colgate is 2-3 over the last five contests following 2-1 home wins over Navy and Bucknell with road losses at Holy Cross (4-3 OT), Cornell (4-3 OT) and Lafayette (2-1).
- Three men have reached double digits in points with Jared Stroud (3g,8a) and Aram Ouligian (6g,2a) posting an identical 14 points … Uyi Omorogbe (3g,4a) has 10 points, while Freddy Jonsson (4g) is close behind at eight.
- Jacob Harris (2-1-0) started in Sunday's win over Navy and owns a .583 save percentage and 1.65 GAA with a shutout over American … Peter Tappenden has made 14 starts at net, posting a .702 save percentage and 1.74 GAA with three shutouts.
- Colgate owns a 91-64 advantage in corner kicks and is averaging 13.7 shots per game while holding opponents to a 11.5 average.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU leads the Raiders, 6-1-2, in a series that dates back to 1979 … The teams though had a break from 1986-2008.
- Last season at Nickerson Field, Colgate's Zach Pagani scored at 25:35 for the early 1-0 lead and answered McDonnell's 38th-minute equalizer with a second go-ahead goal at 61:58 for the 2-1 win.
- The Terriers escaped with a 1-0 overtime win on the road in 2015 after pulling out a 2-0 home win in 2014.
