CHANDLER, Ariz. - Led by head coach
Sally Starr, Boston University field hockey received the 2017 NFHCA Collegiate Regional Coaching Staff of the Year for the Northeast, as announced on Thursday.

Niklas Wellen, guided the Terriers to their third Patriot League title in four years to reach the NCAA tournament for the 13th time in program history.
This is the third time Starr has received this honor, as she was named the NFHCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2007 before it was renamed this year to recognize entire staffs.
The Terriers posted a 14-8 record, including a perfect 6-0 season in Patriot League play to win the conference's regular-season title for the third straight year. In the postseason, BU hosted three games and won them all before coming up short against eventual national champion UConn in the NCAA First Round.
In the Patriot League tournament at New Balance Field, the Terriers blanked Holy Cross, 4-0, before coming from behind to defeat Bucknell in the title game by a score of 2-1. BU hosted an NCAA Opening Round contest against Fairfield and shut out the Stags, 5-0, for the sixth NCAA tournament win in program history.
Starr received Patriot League Coach of the Year honors for the third straight year and also saw several of her players receive league, regional and national accolades. Junior
Ally Hammel was named the NFHCA Northeast Region Player of the Year and Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and became the eighth Terrier to earn first-team All-America honors. Hammel, senior

Allie Doggett were selected to the NFHCA All-Region squads after all three were unanimous All-Patriot League First Team honorees. Freshman

Kiley Gallagher were both selected to the All-Patriot League Second Team.
The four other Division I regional staffs that were honored by the NFHCA were Maryland (Mid-Atlantic), Connecticut (Mideast), North Carolina (South) and Michigan (West). Those four teams comprised this year's NCAA semifinals.
