BOSTONÂ - Coming off a big Michalson Cup win over Brown last Sunday, the Boston University men's rowing team will be back on the Charles River this Sunday when they take on archrival Northeastern in the annual battle for the Arlett Cup. The annual race was originally scheduled for Saturday but moved to Sunday due to a forecast for high winds.
Last weekend, the Terriers swept Brown in eights racing, winning the 4V, 3V and 2V races before winning the varsity eight race in the final contest of the day to claim the Michalson Cup for the first time since 2011.
"We had a good result with Brown last week. There were a lot of things in the racing that we executed well, but a lot of things we need to improve," said head men's rowing coach
Thomas Bohrer. "This week was spent working on those areas of improvement to get faster on Sunday."
The race for the Arlett Cup vs. Northeastern will be the last race of the morning on Sunday when the No. 5 Terriers' varsity eight takes on the No. 7 Huskies at 8:40 a.m. BU will be looking to win the Arlett Cup race for the third-consecutive year, which would be a first for the Terriers in the series between the two schools.
The rivalry between BU and NU dates back to their first meeting in 1966 with the Arlett Cup being introduced in 1982. The cup is named in honor of Ernie Arlett, the founding coach of men's rowing at Northeastern University. Arlett is also known as the "Father of the Head of the Charles Regatta".
