BOSTON - A title will be up for grabs on Sunday at New Balance Field when the No. 16 Boston University field hockey team meets former conference rival New Hampshire in the Terrier Classic final. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
The Terriers blanked Bryant, 4-0, in the opening round to kick off their season on Friday while the Wildcats defeated Northeastern in overtime by a score of 5-4 in the first game of the tournament. Bryant and Northeastern will meet in Sunday's consolation game at 1 p.m.
Â
All four BU goals on Friday came from the sticks of freshmen who were making their collegiate debuts.
Petra Hall scored twice while classmates
Miya Denison and
Ailsa Connolly each added one goal. Junior
Bridget Egan recorded her first two assists as a Terrier while junior
Ally Hammel and senior
Grace Boston each picked up one assist. Junior
Kathleen Keegan and freshman
Millie Baker recorded a shared shutout in goal.
 Â
BU is 21-18-3 in 42 all-time meetings with UNH. The Terriers have won both match-ups since leaving America East to join the Patriot League in 2013 and they came in the past two editions of this season-opening tournament. It began in 2015 as the Tri-Conference Cup with BU hosting UNH and UMass. The Terriers topped the Wildcats, 4-3, that year and won by the same score last year when the rivals met in the title game of the tournament, which was the Wildcat Classic in Durham.Â
Â
On Friday, UNH junior Kate Audino tallied two goals and an assist while classmate Rachel Bossi provided the overtime goal to lift the Wildcats past the Huskies. Senior Ashley Mendonca, who added two assists in the victory, is the team's leading returning scorer from 2016, when she tallied 27 points on 12 goals and three assists. UNH posted a 7-12 record last season, falling to Pacific in the quarterfinal round of the America East tournament.Â
