The Terriers bring a 2-0 record into Labor Day weekend after opening the year with a title at last weekend's Terrier Classic. BU blanked Bryant, 4-0, in the opener before posting another shutout in the championship game with a 1-0 victory against New Hampshire.
Â
All five BU goals during the tournament came from freshmen with New Zealand natives Petra Hall and Ailsa Connolly notching two apiece and fellow rookie Miya Denision scoring the Terriers' first goal of the year. Junior Bridget Egan registered the first points of her career with two assists in the win over the Bulldogs while senior Grace Boston, junior Ally Hammel and freshman Maggie New adding one helper each.
Â
Junior Kathleen Keegan and freshman Millie Baker have split time in goal thus far, helping the Terriers start a season with back-to-back shutouts for the first time in 25 years.
Â
Hammel was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week while Connolly and Keegan were tabbed the league's Rookie and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.
Â
Ball State is also 2-0 thanks to home wins over Saint Louis and Ohio. The Cardinals shut out the Billikens, 5-0, on Aug. 25 before topping the Bobcats, 4-1, two days later.
Â
BU is 4-1 in four all-time meetings with the Cardinals and most recently earned an 8-0 win in a neutral-site contest at Michigan back in 2011.
Â
Redshirt sophomore Michelle Shampton leads the Cardinals in points with six on two goals and two assists while senior Carley Shannon and Sierra Jefferson have each tallied two goals and an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Grace Chavez has stopped five of the six shots she has faced on the young season.
Â
Miami opened with road wins over No. 18 Albany and Siena but fell to UMass Lowell on Friday in overtime, 2-1, to kick off their home tournament.
Â
Last season, the Terriers held off the RedHawks, 2-1, at New Balance Field to improve to a perfect 3-0 in the all-time series.
Â
Junior Paula Portugal, who led last year's team in both points (40) and goals (18), already has three goals this season. Freshman Lexie Nugent has added five points on two goals and an assist while senior Brie Stahl and sophomore Lexi Silver have also recorded two goals each.
Â
In goal, junior Maddie Passarella has taken over the primary role and has an .786Â save percentage and a 0.97 goals-against average through two games.
