The Boston University women's ice hockey team will host Maine in a weekend series at Walter Brown Arena that begins on Saturday at 3 p.m., and concludes the following afternoon at 3 p.m.
BU students can receive free admission for both games by showing their student ID at the ticket window or by registering here.
Sunday will feature a lazy Sunday PJ party. Kids in the eighth grade and below can win prizes and receive free admission for wearing PJs. All fans will also have a chance to win a free mini hockey stick. In addition, free hot chocolate will be available during Sunday's contest.
Following Sunday's contest, fans are invited to join in a postgame skate with the team. Fans must bring their own skates/equipment to participate.
USUALLY OFF TO A FAST START
- BU is 7-3-2 in its first game of a calendar year, including a 2-2 tie at then-No. 6 Boston College last year.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE BLACK BEARS
- BU traveled to Maine on Oct. 20 and suffered a 4-2 setback to the Black Bears.
- After trailing Maine, 3-0, early in the second stanza, BU scored twice before the Black Bears added an empty-netter in the final seconds of the contest.
- Freshman Nara Elia and senior Victoria Bach each lit the lamp for the Terriers.
- Freshman Kristina Schuler provided the lone assist on Elia's marker.
- Senior Erin O'Neil made 31 saves.
HISTORY WITH MAINE
- The Terriers are 26-9-2 all-time against the Black Bears, including a 13-3-0 record at Walter Brown Arena.
- BU is 7-0-0 at home against Maine over the last six seasons.
- The Terriers have won at least one game each year against the Black Bears.
BEST OF BU AGAINST THE BLACK BEARS
- Victoria Bach has tallied 14 points (8g, 6a) against the Black Bears in her four-year career.
- Rebecca Leslie has notched a team-best eight assists against Maine in addition to her four goals against the Black Bears for 12 total points.
- Eleven other Terriers have recorded at least one point against Maine, including multi-point scorers Nina Rodgers (3a) and Savannah Newton (2a).
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
- Maine is receiving votes in both national polls thanks to its 12-6-3 overall record.
- The Black Bears are unbeaten in their last six games (4-0-2), including a 4-1 win at Vermont on Dec. 9 in their last game before the break.
- Sophomore Tereza Vanisova leads Maine in both points (31) and assists (22) while also scoring nine goals, which is tied for the team lead with senior Brooke Stacey.
- Stacey has also added 13 helpers for 22 points.
- Sophomore Carly Jackson is 10-5-3 in 18 starts this season, posting a 1.85 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage over 19 total games played.
BACH, LESLIE ON DUTY WITH CANADA
- Seniors Victoria Bach and Rebecca Leslie are currently away with Team Canada at the 2018 Nations Cup.
- Leslie was named captain of the squad while Bach is an alternate captain.
- Bach lit the lamp in Canada's first game of the tournament and assisted on Leslie's goal in the team's second contest.
- The tournament is taking place in Füssen, Germany, from Jan. 3-6.
- This is the third straight year in which both Leslie and Bach have been chosen for the squad.
O'NEIL EARNS WEEKLY HONOR
- Senior Erin O'Neil was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week.
- She made a season-high 41 saves to help preserve a 1-1 tie at Princeton.
- O'Neil turned aside the final 31 shots she faced, including 16 across the third period and overtime.
- She has averaged 37.3 saves per game and has posted a .941 save percentage over her last three starts.
GREAT WEEKEND FOR RUST
- Junior Reagan Rust was the only Terrier with a point in each game at Princeton this past weekend.
- Her most important point came on Sunday when she tied the game early in the second stanza.
- That was Rust's third goal of the campaign and first since Nov. 3.
- She also provided the primary helper on sophomore Breanna Scarpaci's goal during Saturday's game.
- Rust enters this weekend's series against Maine with 11 points thanks to three goals and eight assists.
NEXT UP
- BU will begin a home-and-home series against No. 8 Providence at Walter Brown Arena on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
- The Terriers will then visit Schneider Arena the next day.
