BOSTON - The No. 24 Boston University field hockey team will close out a three-game homestand and its Patriot League schedule against Holy Cross on Friday evening under the lights at New Balance Field. The Terriers will honor their senior class prior to its final regular-season home game. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
This will be the first home Turnpike Trophy game of the year for the Terriers after picking up wins in Worcester in both men's and women's soccer to take an early 2-0 lead in the year-long competition.
Looking for its third perfect 6-0 PL season in four years, the Terriers have already clinched the league's regular-season title for the fourth straight year and will host the tournament once again on Nov. 2 & 4.
BU improved to 5-0 in league play on Saturday with a 5-1 triumph over Lehigh before dropping a hard-fought, 2-1 contest to No. 5 UConn the following day. The Crusaders have lost their past three contests after putting together a three-game win streak that accounted for all their victories this season.
The Terriers and Crusaders first met in 1980 and have faced off 23 times with BU holding a 20-2-1 advantage, which now includes 20 straight wins after going 0-2-1 in the first three meetings.
Holy Cross senior Emily Loprete leads all Patriot League players in points (23) and goals (11). The only Crusader in double-figure points is fellow senior Suzanne Noone, who has 10 points on three goals and a team-best four assists.
Junior netminder Marcia LaPlante has played every minute of the season for the Crusaders and ranks second in the league in save percentage (.761) while holding a 3.66 goals-against average.
Fourteen Terriers have scored at least one goal this season with sophomore Ailsa Connolly leading the way with team highs in points (18) and goals (8). Senior Ally Hammel ranks second in points with 15 on five goals and a team-best five assists while classmate Kathleen Keegan has a 1.84 goals-against average in 15 starts.
