The Boston University women's ice hockey team will begin its quest for the first Beanpot title as a varsity program when the Terriers face off against Harvard in the opening round of the 40th Women's Beanpot on Tuesday night. Puck drop at Boston College's Conte Forum is set for 5 p.m.

COULD THIS BE THE YEAR?

  • BU is still in search of its first Beanpot title as a varsity program.
  • The Terriers' lone Beanpot title came in 1981, when they were still a club team.

40TH ANNIVERSARY TEAM SELECTIONS

  • Two members of that 1981 championship squad, Lisa Whitcomb Huckins and Deb Gautreau Parece, were named to the 40th Anniversary Team earlier this year.
  • As a freshman, Whitcomb Huckins did not allow a single goal in either game during the 1981 tournament en route to earing Most Valuable Player honors.
  • Gautreau Parece scored two goals in the 1981 title game and also tallied a goal and assisted on the game-winner in the Terriers' opening-round victory.

HISTORY IN THE BEANPOT

  • BU last got to the Beanpot title game in 2012; that was the Terriers' fifth appearance in the tournament's title tilt.
  • As a varsity program, BU has been to three championship contests.
  • The Terriers have defeated BC seven times in the Beanpot, the most wins over any of the other three schools in this tournament.
  • BU is 1-3 against Harvard in the opening round of the Beanpot since 2006, with the one win coming in 2012.
  • The Terriers have tallied at least two goals in each of their last seven Beanpot contests.

BEST OF BU IN THE BEANPOT

HISTORY WITH HARVARD

  • BU is 4-8-2 all-time against Harvard, including an 3-2 overtime loss in the teams' lone meeting at Conte Forum during the 2014 Beanpot.
  • Both games last season went to overtime, including a 6-6 draw in the Beanpot consolation game.
  • The Terriers defeated Harvard, 4-3, in overtime on Nov. 22.
  • Four of the last six games against Harvard have gone to overtime, with BU sporting a 1-1-2 record in those tilts.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE CRIMSON

  • BU and Harvard skated to a wild 6-6 tie in last year's Beanpot consolation game at Matthews Arena.
  • The Terriers led on five different occasions, with the Crimson also holding a brief lead.
  • Harvard erased the final Terrier lead with 1:01 remaining in regulation during an extra-attacker situation.
  • In the third period alone, the teams combined for six goals.
  • Victoria Bach (1g, 2a) had three points while Rebecca Leslie and Nina Rodgers each added a goal and an assist.
  • Eight different Terriers had a point, including Deziray De Sousa.
  • Erin O'Neil made 27 saves.

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON

  • Harvard played two top-five teams at home this past weekend, earning a 2-2 tie with No. 5 Cornell on Friday before suffering a 4-0 setback to No. 4 Colgate the next day.
  • Freshman Becca Gilmore leads the Crimson with 21 points thanks to a team-best 14 assists.
  • Sophomore Kat Hughes has tallied a team-high 11 goals and is second with 19 points.
