WEST WINDSOR, NJ - The No. 8 Boston University men's rowing team will compete in the 116th IRA National Championship Regatta beginning Friday, June 1, on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. The Terriers will send out four boats to compete for a national title over a three-day period in a field of 24 schools.

"We are going into IRA's well prepared," said men's head rowing coach Thomas Bohrer. "We had a solid training period since Eastern Sprints which included making some changes in all the line-ups which has produced more speed in all the boats. The group that we have this year has for the most part been fun to coach. They have been open to making changes and have kept the focus on having the highest team finish that we can have. If we execute this weekend we will leave IRA's feeling satisfied."

The BU varsity eight boat is seeded No. 8 after finishing 6th at the Eastern Sprints on May 13. The V8 will compete in the first heat race of the regatta at 8 a.m. on Friday when they take on No. 1 Washington, No. 9 Syracuse, No. 16 Navy, No. 17 Temple and No. 24 San Diego.

The top two boats of each heat race advance directly to the semifinals on Saturday, while all other boats will try and advance by competing in the repechage on Friday afternoon.

The Terriers' second varsity eight boat is seeded 13th and will compete in its heat race at 9:30 a.m. The 2V8 will race No. 4 Yale, No. 5 Brown, No. 12 Stanford, No. 20 St. Joseph's and No. 21 Bates with the top 2 boats advancing directly to the semis.

BU's third varsity eight boat is seeded 6th and will compete in its heat race at 10 a.m. against No. 3 Cal, No. 11 Brown, No. 14 George Washington and No. 22 UC San Diego.

In their final heat race on Friday, the Terriers' varsity four boat will compete in an unseeded heat against Harvard, Holy Cross, Fairfield, Washington and Cal looking to advance to the semifinals.

The Terriers will look to improve on last year's terrific performance at the IRAs when they finished sixth out of a field of 24 in Ten Eyck points, matching the 2013 squad for highest IRA team finish in program history. BU advanced two boats to the grand finals and finished sixth in the 2V8 grand finals and fourth in the V4 grand to earn 133 Ten Eyck points, seven more than the previous year.
