VANCOUVER, B.C. - Sophomore
Logan Cockerill and freshman
Joel Farabee of the Boston University men's ice hockey team earned silver medals with Team USA at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship following a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Finland in the gold-medal game on Saturday evening at Rogers Arena.
Finland took a 2-0 lead early in the second period before the U.S. squad quickly responded with two goals in a span of 1:46 to draw even. The game-winning goal came from the stick of Finland's Kaapo Kakko with 1:26 left in regulation.
BU players have now won a combined total of 30 medals at World Juniors and Cockerill and Farabee join Dan LaCouture & Tom Poti (1997) and
Dante Fabbro (2017) as Terriers who have claimed silver at the tournament.
Farabee finished tied for fourth on Team USA in points with five on three goals and two assists. He tallied a natural hat trick in a win over Kazakhstan in group play. Cockerill picked up an assist in Friday's semifinal triumph over Russia and his plus-3 rating tied for fourth on the squad.
Team USA captured a medal at World Juniors for the fourth straight year, its longest such streak in tournament history.
BU had three representatives at the tournament as sophomore
