*** Due to technical difficulties, the broadcast of the game at UMass Lowell will only be available on NESN and NESNgo. We anticipate this issue to be fixed for our remaining TV games.***
The Boston University men's ice hockey team (1-1-1) will visit UMass Lowell on Friday (Oct. 25) for its Hockey East opener. The game, which will be televised on NESN, will start at 7 p.m.
Friday's tilt at Tsongas Center is a rematch of last year's Hockey East quarterfinal series, won by the Terriers on the road in three games.
UMass Lowell (3-2-1) is wrapping up a three-game homestand after taking Colgate to overtime both nights last weekend and dropping a 4-3 contest before skating to a 0-0 draw.
The Terriers had similar results against Northern Michigan, opening their series with a 4-4 tie on Friday only to be edged, 4-3, by the Wildcats the following night.
Senior captain Patrick Curry is one of three Terriers with five points thus far and he has a squad-best four goals. Classmate Patrick Harper and junior David Farrance each have two goals and a trio of assists while freshman Trevor Zegras also has three assists to go along with his first collegiate goal, which closed out the scoring in the series finale with NMU. In all, 16 Terriers have recorded at least one point through the first three games.
Dating back to last season, Curry is on a seven-game point streak during which he's tallied 10 points on six goals and four assists. The run started with game one of the Hockey East quarterfinals against the River Hawks.
UMass Lowell's top five point scorers consist of a senior and four freshmen. Senior Kenny Hausinger (3g, 4a) and freshman Matt Brown (2g, 5a) lead the way with seven points apiece while rookies Carl Berglund (2g, 3a) and Andre Lee (3g, 1) have chipped in five and four points, respectively.
The River Hawks have leaned on Tyler Wall in goal as the senior has a .953 save percentage to go along with a 1.18 goals-against average through five starts.
UML is just 2-of-23 thus far on the power play (8.7%) but their penalty kill has been impressive, killing off 21 of their opponents' 23 man-up chances (91.3%).
BU is 77-32-9 (.688) in 118 all-time meetings with the River Hawks, including a slim 17-16-2 advantage in the 35 games that have taken place at Tsongas Center. Lowell, however, is 13-9-1 in the past 23 meetings and 14 of BU's 32 losses in the all-time series have occurred since the start of the 2011-12 season. In 14 overtime games, BU is 5-0-9 against Lowell.
The teams have now split their regular-season series in four straight seasons. The home team won all six contests the first three years while the road teams won both meeting last season.
