BOSTON - Primed for its Nickerson Field 2019 debut, the Boston University women's lacrosse team will look to capture its first win of the season as it welcomes UMass Lowell on Saturday, Feb. 16. Opening draw is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

CITY OF BOSTON DAY

  • Saturday, Feb. 16, will be City of Boston Day at BU, as Beantown residents will receive complimentary admission to all six ticketed Terrier events on campus that day, thanks to BU's Office of Government & Community Affairs and the Department of Athletics.
  • Doubleheaders will be held at Nickerson Field (men's and women's lacrosse), Case Gym (men's and women's basketball), and Agganis Arena (men's and women's ice hockey), all of which are located within a two-minute walk of each other.
  • City residents simply need to register online at this link at www.GoTerriers.com/BostonDay and tickets will be waiting for them at the ticket will-call location at the venue for the game(s).
  • Requests must be submitted online by 5 p.m. Friday, unless capacity is reached sooner.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • No. 1 Boston College proved too much for the Terriers to handle as the Eagles came away with a 20-6 outcome in the season opener last Saturday.
  • Ava Barry and Kelly Mathews led the Terriers with two goals apiece, while Kaitlin Belval and Molly Kern also found the back of the net.
  • Belval led the Terriers in ground balls (3) and draw controls (2).
  • Freshman Kennady Smith made her first career start in net, marking the first time a rookie has earned the starting nod in net for the Terriers since Caroline Meegan in 2014.
  • Riley Kokoruda also earned a starting nod at the midfield, while Maddie MacMaster and Hannah Kenneally saw the field for their collegiate debuts.
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL
  • The River Hawks dropped both of their opening games in California, first suffering a 15-10 defeat at UC Davis before being edged at Fresno State, 14-12.
  • Now in its fifth season at the varsity level, UMass Lowell is coming off a 4-13 season and is 12-59 since elevating to the DI level.
  • It's current 10-member senior class combined for 113 points last season, guiding the River Hawks to set new team records in goals (153), assists (81), points (234), draw controls (158), ground balls (324) and caused turnovers (173).
  • Cameron McKelvin and Kristina Keith are tied for the team lead in goals (6).
  • McKelvin set a new career high with five scores at Fresno State.
  • Renee Gonzalez has played every minute in net thus far, claiming a 27.5 save percentage and has allowed 14.50 goals per game.
  • Kelly Moran leads the team on the draw (15) and holds the program's all-time career record with 92.
  • Kendyl Finelli is coming off a career year as she set the single-season records for points (58) and assists (41) in 2018.
  • Finelli is off to a hot start with five assists already this season.
THE SERIES
  • BU won the inaugural matchup in 2017, 13-7, at Nickerson Field.
  • The River Hawks held a 6-5 advantage at the half, but the Terriers stormed out of the break with a 7-1 run en route to the victory.
  • Three Terriers, including Kailey Conry, netted a hat trick in last season's tilt in Lowell, leading BU to a 14-10 win.

UP NEXT

  • The Terriers will return to the road once again, this time heading down to Hartford for an 11 a.m. start on Saturday, Feb. 23.
