September 18, 2019

The No. 25 Boston University field hockey team will look to get back on track on Saturday (Sept. 21) as it hosts Bucknell on the opening day of Patriot League play. Game time at New Balance Field is set for 1 p.m.

The Terriers (3-3) endured a pair of one-goal losses last weekend in Maine, falling to the Black Bears, 2-1, on Sept. 13 before dropping a 4-3 overtime decision to Columbia in a neutral-site contest the following day.

Freshman Ellie McIntyre scored a goal in each contest while juniors Miya Denison and Maggie New found the back of the cage against the Lions.

Bucknell (2-3) is coming off a 3-1 home loss to No. 23 Syracuse on Sunday. Earlier in the season, the Bison picked up road wins against VCU and Lock Haven.

Senior Brittany Willwerth, who earned Preseason All-Patriot League honors along with goalkeeper Olivia Harris, leads the Bison in both points (6) and goals (3). Sophomore Emily Doyle has tallied two goals while junior Leah Fogelsanger also has four points on a goal and two assists.

Harris earned All-PL First Team honors last year in her first season as the Bison's starting goalkeeper and has a 1.98 goals-against average and a .773 save percentage thus far this year.

For the Terriers, junior Ailsa Connolly has team highs in points (12) and goals (5) while McIntyre (3g) and fellow rookie Jodie Conolly (2g, 2a) have six points apiece.

Freshman Caroline Kelly has started all six games in goal thus far this year for BU. She has a 2.53 goals-against average and a .681 save percentage.

The Terriers are 11-1 all-time against the Bison with wins in the past eight meetings, including a 3-2 double-overtime road win last season. Bucknell's lone victory in the series came in 2014.

BU has won its past 17 home games in Patriot League regular-season play dating back to 2013.
