Looking for a weekend sweep, the Boston University men's ice hockey team will honor its senior class on before taking on No. 16 Northeastern in the regular-season finale on Saturday (March 7) at Agganis Arena. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
The Terriers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 road win over the Huskies on Friday. NU is now on a five-game losing streak, its longest since the opening month of the 2015-16 season.
BU is currently sixth place in the Hockey East standings with 25 points. A win on Saturday would push the Terriers into a tie for fourth with Maine but they would end up the No. 5 seed due to the head-to-head tiebreaker and visit the Black Bears in next weekend's quarterfinals. A loss or tie on Saturday would keep BU in sixth place, which would mean a trip to UMass Lowell for the quarters for the second consecutive year. Â
This will be the 242nd meeting between the Terriers and Huskies since they first met during the 1930-31 season. The only team BU has played more games against is Boston College (282).
BU holds a 167-63-11 (.716) advantage, including wins in 15 of the past 24 meetings (15-6-3) but the Huskies are 5-3-2 in the past 10. In the seven meetings that have taken place since the start of last season, four have gone to overtime. BU is 16-7-2 (.680) in the teams' 115 meetings at Agganis Arena.
Last night at Matthews Arena, graduate student Sam Tucker picked up his third shutout of the season and senior Patrick Curry broke a scoreless tie with his team-leading 19th tally of the year. Junior David Farrance assisted on all three goals, pushing his point total to 43, which broke the single-season record by a BU defenseman in the Hockey East era. Junior Cam Crotty and freshman Wilmer Skoog also found the back of the net for the Terriers.
