BOSTON – Crosstown rivals Boston University and Northeastern University became the only two non-football schools to be recognized by the Sports Video Group (SVG) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) as Outstanding Program Series finalists for the
SVG College Sports Media Awards in association with NACDA. The Terriers' and Huskies' top-rated all-access shows,
BOSTON: Our City and
Tales of the Howlin' Huskies join big brands Alabama, Duke, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Princeton, Texas A&M and USC as finalists.
The Terriers' series,
BOSTON: Our City, airs during NESN game broadcasts and on the
BU Athletics YouTube channel. Series host Elaine Cavalieri walks and talks with various BU student-athletes around the great city of Boston, visiting landmarks such as Fenway Park, Faneuil Hall and Boston Common. The six episodes were featured during intermission and halftime of televised BU hockey, basketball and soccer games, and were produced by
Luke Anderson,
Leo Pare, Matt Woolverton and Edwin Hernandez.
Tales of the Howlin' Huskies – Northeastern Athletics' all-access television series airing on NESN – aired five episodes during the 2019-20 season. The all-access show provided over 100,000 households with an inside look at feature storylines pertaining to the Northeastern athletic department and student-athletes, chronicling those taking place both on and off the field of competition. The series is one of the finalists named in the Collegiate Athletics sub-category.
Boston University Director of Athletics Drew Marrochello comments on NU's Tales of the Howlin' Huskies: "Northeastern has done a great job of bringing its important stories to light with the
Tales of the Howlin' Huskies series. The Huskies have plenty of current and historic accomplishments to promote and they have found the perfect avenue to get these out to a larger audience. Having both departments recognized on the national level for their video excellence is something to be proud of."
Northeastern Director of Athletics and Recreation Jeff Konya comments on BU's BOSTON: Our City: "I must give a tip of the cap to BU Athletics and their Our City feature. It's a wonderful vehicle to get to know their student-athletes better through the art of casual and compelling conversations. I particularly enjoy that they shoot the segments on location in and around historic Boston sites and the production value is first class. Kudos to the Terriers, and to the Huskies, for being able to tell their respective stories in such a way as to earn this distinction."
For more than a decade, the SVG College Sports Media Awards have honored the best achievement in broadcast and visual storytelling, highlighting the work of professional networks, conference offices, athletic departments and students alike.
The Patriot League also picked up an Outstanding Program Series nomination in the Collegiate Conferences and Governing Bodies category for the
Patriot League's College Football 150th Anniversary Interview Series.
