BOSTON, Mass. – In a return to a traditional college basketball schedule, the Boston University women's basketball program ignites its 47th season, welcoming UMass Lowell to campus to begin the 2021-22 campaign. Opening tip is at 6 p.m.

The first 100 students at Tuesday's game will receive a Terriers winter beanie. Fans can also pick up schedule magnets and posters that outline the 29-game slate this year.

After the COVID-19 pandemic forced the program to shift to a league-only format in 2020-21, BU will play an 11-game non-conference schedule. Patriot League play also shifts to a traditional 18-game format, featuring two games on each team's home court. The 2022 Patriot League Tournament is scheduled to take place Mar. 5-13.

Fans are also welcomed back for home games during the entire 2021-22 season. Tickets can be purchased using the link above. Fans are required to follow the BU Athletics Department's Fall 2021 Fan/Visitor Policy. As of Oct. 15, proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required for all Case Center ticketed events open to the general public & BU community. For more information, click here.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • In 2020-21, BU went 10-2 in the regular season to earn the second seed in the Patriot League Tournament, reaching the championship game and finishing with a 12-3 record.
  • The Terriers were predicted to finish second in this year's Preseason Coaches' Poll, receiving three first-place votes and 141 points. Defending champion Lehigh is the preseason favorite.
  • Head Coach Melissa Graves enters her first year leading the Terriers after being named the ninth head coach in program history back in April. Graves spent the previous three seasons as an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator at Wake Forest, and was an assistant coach at Yale and Colgate in previous stops.
  • BU brings back over 78 percent of its scoring and 85 percent of its rebounding from a year ago, including four of 2020-21's starters.
  • All-Patriot League Second Team and Tournament Team selection Sydney Johnson is the Terriers' leading returning scorer, averaging 11.9 points per game on 43.7 percent shooting, while averaging 3.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds.
  • Fellow junior Maren Durant earned a spot on the All-Patriot League Third Team after totaling 9.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, with 26 blocks.
  • Senior Riley Childs (7.2 points per game, team-best 8.0 boards per game) and junior Maggie Pina (9.3 points per game, team-high 29 three-pointers) are the other starters returning to the fold.
  • Redshirt senior Emily Esposito returns for her fifth season after averaging 7.6 points on 41.1 percent shooting from her first year playing for the Terriers.
  • Upperclassmen Chiara Tibbitt, Annabelle Larnard, and Liz Shean will continue to play crucial roles after serving as reserves a season ago, with Tibbitt joining Childs and Johnson as captains for 2021-22.
  • Sophomores Sophie Beneventine and Kelsi Mingo will look to increase their playing time in their second seasons at BU.
  • Among the newcomers is sophomore Caitlin Weimar, who transfers to the Terriers after winning MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year honors at Marist in 2020-21.
  • Freshmen Lauren Davenport, Alex Giannaros, and Corinne Washington round out the roster.
  • BU's non-conference schedule features eight teams that totaled 81 wins in 2020-21's altered year, even with the Terriers' three Ivy League foes canceling the campaign.
  • Including Patriot League play, BU will take on teams from seven difference conferences: the America East, Ivy League, ACC, CAA, NEC, and the A-10.

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
  • UMass Lowell went 12-9 last season, advancing to the America East semifinals before falling to eventual conference champion Stony Brook.
  • Prior to that season, the River Hawks set a Division I program record with 16 wins.
  • Head Coach Denise King is in her first season as head coach after spending the previous three seasons at UMass Lowell as an assistant coach and the team's recruiting coordinator.
  • The River Hawks return their top two scorers from last year's squad: Denise Solis (11.7 points per game on 54.8 percent shooting) and Kharis Idom (10.5 points per game, team-high 32 three-pointers).
  • UMass Lowell was predicted to finish third this year in the America East. Solis garnered preseason all-conference honors.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Tuesday marks the third all-time meeting between BU and UMass Lowell as common Division I opponents, and the first since 2016.
  • Tuesday will be the earliest matchup between these teams in a season, and the first time they will square off in November.
  • In total, the programs have met six times, beginning in 1976. The first meeting between the teams once the River Hawks reclassified to Division I was 2015.
  • In the last matchup in the rivalry, guards Corrine Williams and Courtney Latham posted 19 and 17 points, respectively, to power BU to a 66-56 win at Case Gym.
