BOSTON – 14 months after introducing Kevin Nylen as the program's new head coach, the Boston University men's soccer team will finally get to open the new era and its 72nd season at Patriot League foe Colgate on Saturday with the ESPN+ broadcast set to begin at 1 p.m.

A native of Ipswich, Massachusetts, Nylen returned to the Commonwealth following a three-year head-coaching stint at Florida International in which he led the Panthers to a pair of top-35 RPI finishes, highlighted by an unbeaten 11-0-4 regular season record in 2017. He became just the sixth head coach in program history after the retirement of Neil Roberts, who led BU to 14 NCAA appearances from 1985-2019.

The Terriers return 15 players from the 2019 squad that last played 493 days ago. Sophomore Marc Roura owns the most points back with four off a goal and two assists, while senior Zion Balogun netted a goal and assist. The midfield and backline return experienced players like sophomore Griffin Roach, sophomore Miles Dycaico and junior Nate Cole after they combined for 54 starts in 2019. They along with senior goalkeeper Michael Stone helped BU claim shutout wins against then-No. 22 Navy and Harvard.

As he installs his new system, Nylen also has 13 newcomers to work with this season, including transfers Kenneth Huang (Maryland), Ronaldo Marshall (FIU) and Gianluca Arlotti, who made a combined 27 starts during the last two season in the backline for Merrimack. Huang spent time in the fall training with Taiwan's senior National Team after previously playing with the U-19 and 23 squads, and Marshall made three starts in his last collegiate season at FIU, earning four points in the process.

The Terriers face a Colgate squad that opened its season with a 2-1 loss at Navy on Feb. 28 after posting a 6-9-4 record in 2019. The Midshipmen posted a 14-6 advantage in shots and rallied with 44th and 79th minute goals after Aidan Davock scored with assistance from Justin Weiss.

BU is 7-3-2 in the all-time series that dates back to 1979 and won the last meeting at home in overtime, 2-1, on a header by Satchel Cortet ('20) with Stone recording six saves. The Terriers are 3-1-0 in Hamilton, New York, dropping a 1-0 decision in 2018.
