BOSTON - A long wait will come to an end on Sunday when the Boston University field hockey team opens its season with a road contest at Holy Cross. Game time at Hart Turf Field ist set for 1 p.m.

The Terriers will be playing for the first time since Nov. 2, 2019, a span of over 16 months - 491 days to be exact. After postponing the fall sports season, the Patriot League elected to administer a shortened schedule for those programs in the spring. PL field hockey teams will play a six-game schedule leading up to the conference championship on April 22 & 24.

All games will be streamed on ESPN+ and international fans can watch the games here.

The Terriers were picked third in the Patriot League preseason poll and were represented on the Preseason All-PL Team by two seniors, Miya Denison and Kathryn Scheerer. Sunday marks the start of head coach Sally Starr's 40th season at the helm of the program as she matches Jack Parker for the longest head-coaching tenure in BU Athletics history.

BU's top returning scorer from 2019 is junior Ellie McIntyre, who tallied four goals and an assist as a sophomore in 2019. Senior Liz Ryan was close behind with three goals and a helper. After splitting time as a freshman, Caroline Kelly has the most experience in goal on the current roster having played 14 games, including 10 starts.

Holy Cross is paced offensively by senior Minke Koomen, who led the team in points in 2019 with 21 on nine goals and three assists. Classmate Emily Devine was the lone Crusader named to the Preseason All-PL Team.

The Terriers have a 22-2-1 all-time record in its series with the Crusaders and have won the past 22 meetings dating back to 1983.
