BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team will attempt to regain the Patriot League crown when it hosts Bucknell in the conference title game on Saturday (April 24) at New Balance Field. Game time is now set for 2 p.m. (originally 1 p.m.) and it will be broadcast on ESPN+.
BU is the PL title game for the seventh time in its eight season in the conference thanks to a 5-1 victory over Holy Cross in the semifinals on Thursday to improve to 5-0. Third-seeded Bucknell topped defending champion American, 2-1, in the other semifinal, which needed a shootout to determine the winner after the game was deadlocked following two overtimes.
BU is now 11-2 all-time in the Patriot League tournament.
This will be a rematch of the 2017 Patriot League title game, which the Terriers took by a score of 2-1 at New Balance Field. They also met in the 2014 championship game with BU earning its first PL title with a 2-1 triumph in Lewisburg.
Either BU or American has emerged as the league champion in each of the past seven seasons. The Terriers hoisted the trophy in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018. Bucknell is search of its first PL title.
BU and Bucknell last met in the 2019 regular season with the Bison earning a 1-0 win at New Balance Field. That ended the Terriers' eight-game winning streak in the series, which they now lead, 11-2.
