Returning for a 13th year, GoTerriers.com will once again count down the top 12 achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Tuesday and Friday as we reveal this year's Terrier Twelve.
Coming in at No. 1 in this year's Terrier 12 is softball three-peating as conference champions for the first time in program history following a historic regular season that saw BU capture four major Patriot League awards.
Led by 2021 PL Coach of the Year Ashley Waters, the Terriers finished 36-4 for a record-breaking .900 winning percentage while also batting a program-record .320 on the season. In the circle, BU posted a stellar 1.26 earned run average that ranked No. 2 nationally. Overall, BU placed in the top-65 in 13 NCAA statistical categories, including eight in the top-26.
The Terriers opened the year with a doubleheader split before embarking on a then-PL record-breaking 17-game win streak that featured a pair of victories over both crosstown rival Boston College and America East preseason favorite Stony Brook. BU finished the regular season at 33-2 and 21-1 in conference play to claim its third straight regular season title along with nine All-Conference awards. Ali DuBois became the second in program history and third in the PL to garner a third Pitcher of the Year award, as she posted a 22-0 record and 0.69 ERA. Both Caitlin Coker (.431 avg., 39 runs, 17 RBIs) and Lauren Keleher (.337 avg., 19 runs, 15 RBIs) added two more major honors as Player and Rookie of the Year, respectively.
Battling at home for the automatic NCAA berth, the PL's top-seeded Terriers won all three contests by a combined score of 23-7. In the final, they eliminated Lehigh, 9-2, to set a new conference record at 18 straight wins while also trying a program record set back in 2001. Lauren Nett batted a combined 4-for-8 with seven RBIs and three runs to claim Tournament MVP honors. BU's performance during the regular season and in the conference tourney led to the program earning its second-ever No. 3 seed at the NCAA Regionals, last accomplishing the feat in 2012.
Following the victory over the Mountain Hawks, five Terriers were honored with NFCA All-Region accolades for the first time since 2007. DuBois and Coker were joined by Jen Horita on the first team, while Emily Gant and Nicole Amodio were placed on the second and third teams, respectively. Other highlights during the season included Allison Boaz pitching the program's 25th-ever no-hitter at Merrimack and Coker earning BU's first NFCA National Player of the Week award since 2010. DuBois ended the year ranked tied-for-first all-time at BU and second in the PL with 85 career victories and in the top four in both record books at 639 strikeouts.
BU was also impressive in the classroom, boasting a cumulative 3.58 GPA for the academic year with 17 Terriers earning a spot on the PL Academic Honor Roll. Both Coker and Gant received CoSIDA Academic All-District Team honors and were joined by Amodio on the Academic All-PL squad.
