The Boston University field hockey team will hit the road this weekend for a pair of games, starting with its Patriot League opener at Lehigh on Friday (Sept. 17). The Terriers will then visit No. 18 Princeton on Sunday (Sept. 19).
Friday's contest against the Mountain Hawks will begin at 4 p.m. while Sunday's tilt with the Tigers is set for a 1 p.m. start. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers will be looking to end a three-game skid though two of those losses came against teams that were ranked third in the nation at the time.
- BU is 7-1 in Patriot League openers since joining the conference in 2013.
- Freshman Payton Anderson leads the team in points (8) and goals (3) and has claimed two of the three Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors thus far this season.
- BU has scored eight goals thus far this season and they have been scored by six different players.
- Junior Caroline Kelly is coming off a career-high 15-save performance against No. 3 Boston College on Sunday.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS
- Four of Lehigh's five games have been decided by a single goal.
- The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 2-1 home triumph over Georgetown on Sunday.
- Lehigh's other two wins (Bryant, La Salle) also came at home.
- Junior Sarah Bonthuis leads Lehigh in points (11), goals (4) and assists (3) while fifth-year Drew Pecora (3g, 2a) and graduate student Lenke Havas (3g) have added eight and six points, respectively.
- Junior Maddie Kahn, the reigning PL Goalkeeper of the Year, has played every minute in goal thus far this season and sports a 2.40 goals-against average and a .692 save percentage.
BU-LEHIGH SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 7-1 all-time against Lehigh and posted a 5-2 home win over the Mountain Hawks last season.
- The lone loss came in the Terriers' last visit to Bethlehem, which went to overtime and ended BU's 2019 season.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- Princeton remains ranked despite an 0-3 start but all three losses were against ranked ACC schools.
- Most recently, the Tigers fell to then-No. 18 Duke, 3-1, on Saturday.
- When the Tigers opened their season against top-ranked North Carolina on Sept. 3, it was their first game since losing to the Tar Heels in the 2019 national title game as the Ivy League did not compete last season.
- Freshman Beth Yeager is make a name for herself early on with team highs in points (4) and goals (2). Classmate Lily Webb and sophomore Grace Schulze have scored one goal apiece.
- Sophomore Robyn Thompson has taken over the team's goalkeeping duties and she currently has a 2.95 goals-against average and a .571 save percentage.
BU-PRINCETON SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers have won three of their 15 all-time match-ups against the Tigers.
- Princeton has claimed the past three meetings including a 3-1 contest at New Balance Field when they last faced off on Oct. 20, 2019.
- BU's lone road win against Princeton came in 2002.
UP NEXT
- The Terriers will return to their home schedule next Saturday (Sept. 25) when they host Bucknell in a rematch of last season's Patriot League title game.
