BOSTON – The Boston University field hockey team enters a three-game homestand beginning on Friday (Sept. 3) when New Hampshire visits New Balance Field for a 4 p.m. contest. The Terriers will then face No. 3 Iowa on Sunday (Sept. 5) at 1 p.m.
New Hampshire and Iowa will face off against each other at New Balance Field on Saturday (Sept. 4) at 3 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU split its opening weekend, earning a 2-1 home win against Monmouth on Aug. 27 before falling at Providence by the same score two days later.
- Freshman Payton Anderson assisted on the game-winner versus Monmouth and then added BU's lone goal against the Friars en route to Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors.
- Graduate student Miya Denison opened the scoring against Monmouth before sophomore Thalia Steenssens broke a 1-1 tie that lead BU to the victory.
- Anderson and Steenssens recorded their first collegiate goals.
- Junior Caroline Kelly and sophomore Kate Thomason have split time in net, combining for a .727 save percentage, a 1.55 goals against average and nine saves.
SCOUTING UNH
- The Wildcats traveled to Louisville to kick of their season last weekend and came home with a split.
- Bloem van den Brekel's goal was the difference in a 1-0 win over Ohio in their opener.
- The following day, UNH dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 5 Louisville.
- Last season, UNH went 4-8, including 1-7 in America East play.
- Junior Ava Mariani was the team's leading scorer last year, recording six goals and an assist for 13 points.
- In goal, junior Jemma Woods returns as the primary starter and has an impressive .833 save percentage through two games.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU holds a 24-18-3 advantage in its all-time series with UNH and has been victorious in the past five meetings.
- The rivals last met in 2019 with the Terriers posting a 2-1 win in their home opener on Sept. 6.
- Nine of the past 11 meetings have been decided by a single goal.
SCOUTING IOWA
- The Hawkeyes, who advanced to the national semifinals last season for the first time since 2008, have gotten off to an impressive start, earning home wins over No. 11 Wake Forest and defending national champion and top-ranked North Carolina.
- Iowa topped the Demon Deacons, 5-3, in its opener before a 3-1 triumph over the Tar Heels.
- Fifth-years Maddy Murphy (2g, 2a) and Ellie Holley (1g, 3a) currently lead the team with six and five points, respectively.
- That duo also led the squad last season with Murphy totaling 18 points (8g, 2a) and Holley adding 13 (3g, 7a).
- Senior Grace McGuire is in her second season as the Hawkeys' starter in goal and posted a 1.16 goals-against average and a .714 save percentage as a junior.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU has won just one of its nine meetings with the Hawkeyes.
- The teams last faced off in 2009 with Iowa earning a 3-1 neutral-site win in Amherst.
- The Terriers' lone victory against Iowa was a big one, coming by way of a 1-0 double-overtime contest in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
