BOSTON – Looking to carry momentum from the Patriot League opening win over Navy, the Boston University men's soccer team will visit Lafayette on Saturday with action slated to begin at 12 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU handed Navy (5-1-1) its first loss of the season on Saturday with junior Quinn Matulis scoring the lone goal in the 86th minute and classmate Francesco Montali posting six saves for the shutout.
- Matulis was named PL Midfielder of the Week, while Montali was tabbed Goalkeeper of the Week after Brian Hernandez claimed Rookie of the Week accolades the previous week with a two-goal performance at St. John's.
- Both Matulis and Hernandez own two goals and four points apiece apiece, while junior Ronaldo Marshall has a goal and assist for three points.
- Montali has started five games at net, earning a 1.80 goals against average and .719 save percentage, with senior Michael Stone starting the other game, a 0-0 draw at Merrimack.
- Opponents are averaging five more shots per game against the Terriers while claiming a 39-21 advantage in corner kicks.
SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS
- Runner-up in last season's PL tournament, the Leopards opened conference play with a 0-0 draw against Bucknell and are currently on a three-game unbeaten streak with a 2-1 win over St. Francis Brooklyn and most recently a 3-1 win at St. Peter's.
- Lafayette is 3-0-1 at home and was shut out in all three losses on the road by Albany (1-0), Fairleigh Dickinson (3-0) and UNC Wilmington (1-0).
- Marcos Kitromilides leads Lafayette with eight points off three goals and two assists, while both Jon Ford and Benji Grossi have a goal and assist.
- Alex Sutton has played every minute at net, claiming a 0.97 GAA and .714 save percentage.
- The Leopards are averaging 2.5 more shots per game than opponents and have a slight 39-34 advantage in corner kicks.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 4-3-1 all-time in the series that dates back to 2013.
- After halting the Terriers' four-game win streak with a 0-0 draw in 2018, the Leopards have won the last two meetings by one goal apiece.
- This past spring in Boston, Marshall set up sophomore Andrew Rent's goal in the 21st minute and tied the game, 2-2, in the 60th minute with a goal of his own before the Leopards struck a third time in the 89th minute.
