Terriers Come Up Short Against No. 21 Eagles, 3-1

NEWTON, Mass. - The Boston University field hockey team fell short against No. 21 Boston College on Sunday afternoon as the Eagles secured a 3-1 home win at Newton Campus Field.

Sophomore Payton Anderson scored the Terriers' lone goal as she tied up the game 1-1 late in the second half off a corner. Senior Caroline Kelly recorded 13 saves for the Terriers.

BU, which was playing in its non-conference finale, now stands at an even 8-8 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles got off to a strong start and scored off the first corner of the game in the third minute.

  • Kelly made three saves in each of the first two quarters.
  • The Terriers earned their first corner with just under two minutes left in the open half and used it to notch an equalizer.
  • Anderson notched her fourth goal of the week as her shot from the top of the circle glazed off a BC defender and in at 28:25.
  • Graduate student Casey Thompson and junior Thalia Steenssens picked up assists on the play.
  • The third quarter belonged to BC as they were able to generate several chances and use them to regain the lead and score twice less than three minutes apart.
  • Kara Heck scored what would be the game-winner in the 41st minute when she received a throw off a restart and attacked from the left side before scoring with a high shot.
  • Soon after, BC's Margo Carlin scored off her own rebound to create the first multi-goal lead of the game at 3-1.
