Roach Tabbed United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American

December 16, 2022

KANSAS CITY  – Boston University men's soccer senior Griffin Roach added one more award to his stellar 2022 fall campaign, as he was recognized with United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America honors, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.

In order to be eligible for United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region and All-America teams, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.40 cumulative GPA, play in a minimum of 75% of a team's contest and be an elite player as supported by playing honors (All-America, All-Region, minimum All-Conference).  A student-athlete must also be at least a junior athletically.

The 2022 Patriot League Defender of the Year was recently named an All-Region Third Team and Scholar All-Region First Team honoree after anchoring a backline that claimed nine shutouts, including a 1-0 win over then-No. 9 Hampshire. He scored his first career collegiate goal with a header off a free kick in the 2-0 win against Bucknell and followed up on his sliding team save against Holy Cross with a long pass that set up the game's first goal. The Canton, Massachusetts, native became the first player in PL history to earn three straight Defender of the Week honors.

Majoring in business administration and management, Roach has twice been placed on the PL Academic Honor Roll. He currently owns a cumulative 3.54 GPA to become the second-ever Terrier and first since Dan Schultz ('09) to be tabbed a Scholar All-American. Nick Thomson ('14) was the last Terrier to be recognized nationally with Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Communicators.
