BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer program ushers in a new era in 2022, as the program has released its 18-game schedule for the upcoming season.
Under first-year Head Coach
Casey Brown (COM'10), who became the second head coach in team history following Nancy Feldman's 27-year tenure, the Terriers will play nine non-conference opponents and a full nine-game, Patriot League slate. BU will host eight games at Nickerson Field in the fall semester, and face programs from eight different conferences: the Patriot League, CAA, Big East, America East, Big Ten, Ivy League, ACC, and A-10.
We are very excited for the season ahead and cannot wait to get underway with the team," said Brown. "The game schedule, and specifically the non-conference portion, will be a terrific preparation for our group, as we look to challenge ourselves to be battle-tested against top opponents for our high aspirations in Patriot League play and beyond."
The Terriers open the year with a home tilt against crosstown rival Northeastern on Thursday, Aug. 18. BU has won three of the last four matchups in the series. Providence then visits Terrier Town on Sunday, Aug. 21.
BU's first road contest takes place at UMass Lowell on Thursday Aug. 25. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in last year's meeting on Aug. 23, 2021.
The Terriers close out the month by welcoming Big Ten foe Michigan to Boston on Sunday, Aug. 28. That match will be the third all-time between the Terriers and Wolverines, and the first at Nickerson Field.
BU starts September with a trek to Yale on the first day of the month. The squads have not played each other since 2011, and not each other at Yale since 2007. Terrier Tailgate is back at Nickerson Field on Sunday, Sept. 4, when BU faces Boston College in the Battle of Comm. Ave. BU hosts the rivalry game for the first time since 2018.
A four-game road trip begins with a visit to UMass on Thursday, Sept. 8. Three days later, on Sept. 11, BU heads to New Hampshire with a chance to improve its 14-game unbeaten streak in the rivalry.
Patriot League play starts on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Lafayette. The Terriers won last year's battle, 2-1, and are 8-1-1 all-time against the Leopards. BU caps the road swing at Colgate on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
The Terriers host Navy in their Patriot League home opener on Saturday, Sept. 24. Last season, BU dispatched the Mids, 3-1, in Annapolis, Md. BU's short homestand wraps up when Lehigh comes to Terrier Town on Saturday, Oct. 1. In nine previous meetings, the Terriers are 6-1-2 against the Mountain Hawks.
BU ignites a three-game road trip with their 2022 non-conference finale, crossing the Mass Pike to play Harvard on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The all-time series is tied at 9-9-6 heading into the season. The Terriers resume league action at American on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Terriers have outscored the Eagles 21-3 in nine all-time meetings, going 7-0-2. BU returns to the Bay State on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Holy Cross. BU's lone setback against the Crusaders since becoming a Patriot League member (8-1 record) was in 2019, when Brown was the head coach at Holy Cross.
Saturday, Oct. 15 features a rematch of the 2021 Patriot League Championship game as BU hosts Bucknell. The squads tied in last year's regular season meeting before the Bison captured the league title, 1-0, on Nov. 7, 2021. The Terriers then travel to Loyola Maryland for their regular season road finale on Saturday, Oct. 22. BU has not lost to the Greyhounds in the last seven matches.
In the final game of the regular season, on Wednesday, Oct. 26, BU hosts Army at Nickerson Field. The Terriers defeated the Black Knights twice a season ago, including a 1-0 triumph in the Patriot League Semifinals on Nov. 4, 2021.
Last season, BU secured its 14th regular season championship in program history, and the fourth as a member of the Patriot League, with an 11-6-3 record and 6-1-2 league mark. The Terriers advanced to the 2021 Patriot League championship as the No. 1 seed, hosting the tournament at Nickerson Field.
