BOSTON – Riding a three-game unbeaten streak, the Boston University men's soccer team will host Merrimack on Monday with action slated to begin at 1 p.m.
The Terriers will be concluding a two-game homestand following Friday's 1-1 draw against Saint Joseph's, while the Warriors are looking to bounce back from Wednesday's 2-0 defeat at Bryant.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is on its longest unbeaten streak to start a season since the Terriers opened 3-0-1 in 2010.
- BU snapped a five-game losing streak in home openers and is currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak at Nickerson Field dating back to last season. It's the team's longest streak at home since the Terriers finished the 2016 season with a 4-0-1 record.
- Sophomore Neal Carlson became the third Terrier to score a goal this season after senior Quinn Matulis netted the equalizer at Albany in a 1-1 draw and senior Ryan Lee earned the game winner at No. 9 New Hampshire for the 1-0 victory.
- Matulis is the lone Terrier with both a goal and assist so far this season after using a free kick to set up graduate student Evan Morrison's shot that hit the crossbar and led to Carlson's score.
- Reigning Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week Francesco Montali owns a 0.846 save percentage and 0.67 goals against average with his one shutout against the Wildcats.
- The Terriers have ended regulation tied at least twice through the first three games of a season for the first time since 2008.
SCOUTING MERRIMACK
- Merrimack went 7-9-1 last season and 6-3-0 in conference play.
- All three games this year have featured a shutout with the Warriors blanking Hartford at home, 4-0, and failing to find the back of the net at home to Vermont (1-0).
- Stefano Pesenti owns two goals, while Johan Felischer has three points off a goal and assist. Juri Schlingmann owns the other goal.
- Alvaro Rodriguez has played every minute at net, earning a .786 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 0-1-1 all-time in the series following last year's scoreless draw on the road.
- The Terriers earned a 13-12 advantage in shots and 6-5 edge in corner kicks with senior Gianluca Arlotti recording a team-high three shots on net.
- In the first-ever meeting back in 2019 at Nickerson Field, Merrimack won, 3-0, despite facing a 22-12 deficit in shots.
- The Warriors scored one goal on a corner kick and another off a penalty kick.
