BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team fell to crosstown rival and seventh-ranked Northeastern, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena.
Gwyneth Philips turned in an 18-save shutout while Alina Mueller tallied two goals and an assist.
The Terriers fall to 7-14-0 overall and 6-11-0 in Hockey East play while the Huskies improve to 19-2-1 with a 15-2-1 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Soon after the Terriers generated a pair of early chances, the Huskies opened the scoring at the 3:17 mark when Maureen Murphy found Mueller all alone at the left post.
- NU doubled its lead on its second power-play chance of the game as Chloé Aurard sent in a rebound at the right post with 5:40 remaining in the opening frame.
- The Huskies put the game away by scoring three times in under three minutes in the second period.
- Mueller notched her second tally of the game at 12:20 before Taze Thompson made it 4-0 just 34 seconds later.
- Maureen Murphy capped the scoring spurt with a goal at the 15:11 mark.
- Mia Brown created the 6-0 final with the lone goal of the final period.
GAME NOTES
- Graduate student Andrea Brändli made 25 saves in two periods of work before sophomore Callie Shanahan played the third and tallied 11 saves.
- Senior captain Nadia Mattivi had a team-best three blocked shots for the Terriers.
