Field Hockey Heads to Central New York to Face Colgate, No. 17 Cornell

The Boston University field hockey team will embark on its final road trip of the regular season when it visits Colgate on Friday (Oct. 20) before heading to No. 17 Cornell for a contest on Sunday (Oct. 22).

The Terriers can clinch a spot in the Patriot League tournament with a win over the Raiders on Friday. 

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers just wrapped up a six-game homestand during which they won the first two contests and dropped the final two, including a 7-0 loss to No. 11 Harvard on Tuesday.
  • Senior Thalia Steenssens has a team-best 17 points on four goals and nine assists and her assist total ranks tied for eighth in the nation.
  • Sophomore Caroline O'Brien continues to lead the team in goals with six.
  • Junior Payton Anderson has tallied four goals and two assists.
  • BU is currently tied for third in the Patriot League standings at 2-2.
  • Senior Kate Thomason has started all 14 contests thus far and has a .689 save percentage and a 2.30 goals-against average. 
SCOUTING COLGATE
  • The Raiders enter Friday on a seven-game losing streak and most recently dropped a 3-2 contest to Stonehill on Sunday.
  • Colgate has earned wins over Rider, Lindenwood and Saint Louis this season.
  • Senior Ella Murphy leads the team in both goals (4) and assists (7) for 15 points while sophomore Alice Walton has added eight points on three goals and a pair of assists.
  • In goal, sophomore Claire van Kempen has earned the start in 11 contests and currently has a .640 save percentage and a 3.06 goals-against average.
BU-COLGATE SERIES HISTORY
  • BU is 12-1 all-time against the Raiders with the lone loss coming in the first-ever meeting in 1983.
  • Last season, the Terriers posted a 3-2 home win over Colgate and got a pair of goals from Martu Coulo.
SCOUTING CORNELL
  • The Big Red is currently ranked 17th in the country, its highest-ever ranking in the NFHCA poll.
  • Cornell has won nine of its past 10 contests, including five straight, with the only loss in the span coming in a seven-round shootout at Princeton back on Sept. 29.
  • The Big Red offense ranks second in the nation, averaging 3.55 goals per contest.
  • Senior All-American Caroline Ramsey is the program's all-time leading scorer and leads this year's squad in both goals (20) and points (46).
  • Ramsey is second in the nation in goals and her sister, Julia, has had a standout rookie season for Cornell, leading all Division I players in assists with 15.
  • Freshman Martha Broderick has started all 13 games in goal for hte Big Red and sports a .695 save percentage and a 1.35 goals-against average.. 
BU-CORNELL SERIES HISTORY
  • BU and Cornell are meeting for just the second time.
  • The Terriers earned a 1-0 victory over the Big Red on Sept. 26, 1987, in a neutral-site contest at Syracuse.
