No. 8 BU Hosts No. 9 Maine for Weekend Series at Agganis

The No. 8 Boston University men's ice hockey team will continue its four-game homestand this weekend when the Terriers welcome No. 9 Maine to Agganis Arena for a two-game series. Tickets for both nights can be purchased here, with both contests streamed live on ESPN+. Friday's game will also be televised on NESN in New England and on TSN5 in Canada.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU swept its home-and-home series with UMass Lowell last weekend, earning a 3-2 road win on Friday and a 6-1 home triumph on Saturday at Agganis.
  • Sophomore Quinn Hutson was named Hockey East Player of the Week after recording four goals against the River Hawks, including his first collegiate hat trick on Saturday as part of a career-best four-point performance.
  • A Hutson brother has notched a hat trick in each of the Terriers' last two home games, as Lane scored three times against North Dakota on Nov. 4.
  • BU has claimed each of the last three Hockey East Player of the Week awards, with Quinn (Nov. 13) and Lane Hutson (Nov. 6) following freshman Macklin Celebrini (Oct. 30).
  • Celebrini leads the NCAA with 18 points and is the only skater in the country averaging 2.0 points per game.
  • He collected a career-high four assists, including three primary helpers, in Saturday's win.
  • Lane Hutson has lit the lamp in four straight contests and leads all NCAA defensemen with eight goals in just nine games, a mark that is tied for fourth among all skaters regardless of position. 
  • Senior Luke Tuch has tallied 11 points (3g, 8a) over the last seven games, including two assists in each victory this past weekend.
  • Junior Mathieu Caron led Hockey East with a .939 save percentage this past weekend.

HISTORY WITH MAINE

  • BU and Maine are facing off as top-10 teams for the first time since the Black Bears earned a 5-3 win in the 2012 Hockey East semifinals.
  • This is the first top-10 regular-season clash between BU and Maine since Nov. 6, 2010, a 2-2 tie at Agganis.
  • The Terriers and Black Bears have played 143 times since first meeting in the 1923-24 season, and BU holds a 73-56-14 edge (.556), including a 33-14-6 advantage since the beginning of the 2005-06 season.
  • BU has won seven of its last eight games against Maine, including a three-game sweep last season that included two wins at Agganis Arena.
  • BU is 10-2-15 in overtime games against Maine.
  • The Terriers' longest winning streak in the series was 13 games (Jan. 16, 1982 - Feb. 15, 1986) while the Black Bears' longest streak was 11 games (Oct. 31, 1986 - Nov. 10, 1989) and came just after the BU win streak. 

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS

  • Maine rose to No. 9 in both national polls after earning a 4-1 win and a 2-2 tie against then-No. 1 Boston College last weekend at Alfond Arena.
  • Senior goaltender Victor Östman was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week for Nov. 13 with after making 52 saves for a .929 save percentage against BC.
  • Östman has started all eight games for Maine, posting a 2.09 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.
  • Freshman brothers Bradly and Josh Nadeau are tied with senior Lynden Breen for the team lead in points with 10 apiece.
  • Breen and Josh Nadeau each have three goals and a team-high seven assists while Bradly Nadeau has scored a team-best six goals in addition to four assists.
