BOSTON – Facing its first nationally-ranked opponent of the season, the Boston University men's soccer team will visit No. 23 New Hampshire Sunday evening with action slated to begin at 5 p.m.
The Terriers opened their 75th season Thursday night at home by scoring two goals in the final five minutes of regulation to defeat UAlbany, 2-1, while the Wildcats posted a 1-1 draw at VCU.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- Graduate student Quinn Matulis ignited the BU rally against the Great Danes with his team-leading fifth goal over the last 17 contests.
- Senior Aidan Bone pounced on a back pass in the 89th minute for his first career game-winning goal, as BU found the back of the net multiple times in a season opener since beating Colgate, 3-0, in the 2020 campaign.
- Reigning Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year Francesco Montali earned two saves in the victory, and was one of four Terriers alongside reigning PL Defensive Player of the Year Griffin Roach, sophomore back Ryan Lau and 2022 All-PL First Team midfielder Colin Innes to play all 90 minutes.
- The Terriers were picked to finish second in the PL Preseason poll after placing second in the standings last season.
- Collecting road wins over then-No. 9 UNH and Loyola Maryland, BU went 2-4-2 away from home in 2022 compared to the 4-1-5 home mark at Nickerson Field.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
- The reigning America East champion Wildcats went 15-4-1 last season, posting a 2-0 win over UAlbany in the title game and coming up just short to Florida International on penalty kicks during the second round of the NCAA tournament.
- UNH went 10-1-0 at home last year with a 2-1 NCAA opening round win over Seton Hall and the lone loss coming against the Terriers.
- 2022 All-American midfielder Yannick Bright is back for the Wildcats as a member of the MAC Hermann Player of the Year Watch List.
- Both Bright and forward Eli Goldman were named to the United Soccer Coaches' Players to Watch. Goldman posted a team-high nine goals last season.
- Keeper Erik Lautas made four saves against VCU after posting 21 shutouts and 116 saves over 39 games at Tufts.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU leads the all-time series, 24-22-9, after upsetting the Wildcats, 1-0, last season on the road.
- Senior Ryan Lee scored the lone goal in the 78th minute, as BU withstood 18 corner kicks and a 23-3 deficit in shot attempts.
- UNH is 6-2-0 over the last eight meetings going back to 2009 with three overtime victories.

- BU will remain on the road and visit Saint Joseph's on Thursday (Aug. 31) at 7 p.m.
- The Terriers and Hawks met for the first time ever last season at Nickerson Field with the contest ending in a 1-1 draw.
