BOSTON – Defending its 2022-23 Patriot League regular season title, the Boston University women's basketball program ignites its league schedule on Wednesday (Jan. 3), welcoming Navy to Case Gym. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
BU (8-3) was one of two Patriot League teams (Lehigh) to record eight wins against non-conference opponents. The Terriers capped off the 2023 calendar year on a three-game winning streak, and are 6-1 at home this season.
Navy (4-7) has lost its last five contests against Division I foes, and is 0-4 on the road in 2023-24. The Mids' last win was a 105-50 triumph over Division III opponent Goucher on Dec. 19, 2023.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU last played on Dec. 22, defeating Northeastern across town 83-80 in overtime.
- The Terriers overcame a 17-point deficit in the second quarter, with sophomore Anastasiia Semenova burying a three-pointer with 1.3 seconds left in the extra frame to seal the victory.
- Senior Caitlin Weimar posted game-highs of 26 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists in the effort.
- Semenova poured in a career-high 18 points, as did freshman Inés Monteagudo Pardo with her 15 points.
- Junior Alex Giannaros added 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting.
- The Patriot League awarded Weimar and Monteagudo as the Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Dec. 26. It marked Weimar's second award this year, and Monteagudo's first in her career.
- BU's eight non-conference wins were the most since the 2012-13 campaign, when BU racked up 10 victories.

- Giannaros is top-10 in three-pointers per game (fourth – 2.2), steals per game (fifth – 1.9), assist/turnover ratio (sixth – 1.2), minutes per game (eighth – 32.0), and assists per game (ninth – 2.9).
- Senior Sophie Beneventine is fourth in the Patriot League with a 1.3 assist/turnover ratio and eighth with a team-best three assists per contest.
SCOUTING NAVY
- The Mids have lost five of their last six after defeating Quinnipiac 75-62 in the Navy Classic back on Nov. 25, 2023.
- Navy's last regular season road win was on Jan. 12, 2022, a 65-62 decision at Colgate. Its last road win was as the eighth seed at No. 1 Holy Cross in the Patriot League quarterfinals on Mar. 7, 2022.
- Four-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week Zanai Barnett-Gay paces the Mids and the Patriot League with 19.5 points per game, hitting 46 percent of her shots.
- Fellow rookie Kyah Smith is the only other Mid averaging double digits with 11.4 points per contest.
- Navy was projected to finish 10th in the Patriot League Preseason Poll under fourth-year head coach Tim Taylor.
- Last season, Navy went 1-29, with its lone victory coming against Loyola Maryland on Jan. 14, 2023.
SERIES HISTORY
- Wednesday marks the 20th all-time meeting between BU and Navy in a series that began in 2011.
- The Mids hold a 10-9 advantage in the rivalry.
