No. 2 Terriers Host Northeastern Tuesday Night

The No. 2 Boston University men's ice hockey team will continue its three-game homestand on Tuesday night when the Terriers host Northeastern at Agganis Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU began its brief homestand with an exhibition on Friday night against Simon Fraser.
  • The Terriers and the Red Leafs skated to a 1-1 draw, with freshman Gavin McCarthy scoring the Terriers' lone goal in both regulation and the shootout.
  • In his first appearance as a Terrier, freshman Max Lacroix made 14 saves in regulation and stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout.
  • BU will welcome back freshman Macklin Celebrini, sophomore Lane Hutson and freshman Tom Willander after the trio competed at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Sweden.
  • Hutson and Team USA won gold thanks to a 6-2 victory over Willander and host Sweden.
  • Freshman Shane Lachance has recorded four goals over his last three games, which is most among any player in the country over their last three games.
  • Junior Mathieu Caron made 23 saves to earn his 12th win of the year at Yale on Dec. 29.
  • Caron owns a 1.61 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage over the last five games, dating back to Nov. 22 when the Terriers defeated Quinnipiac, 3-2.
  • That win over Quinnipiac started the nation's longest active streak of a team allowing two goals or fewer.
  • Sophomore Quinn Hutson and graduate student Sam Stevens have both recorded a point in each of the last three games.

SERIES HISTORY

  • This will be the 249th meeting between the Terriers and Huskies since they first met during the 1930-31 season. 
  • The only team BU has played more games against is Boston College (291).
  • BU holds a 169-67-12 (.706) advantage over the Huskies, including a 16-10-2 record at Agganis and an 81-30-7 mark at Matthews Arena.
  • In the 14 meetings that have taken place since the start of the 2018-19 season, seven have gone to overtime, including a 4-3 victory for BU at Matthews Arena on Nov. 19, 2022. 
  • The two teams have played 33 overtime games in the all-time series, and BU holds a 13-8-12 edge. 
  • The Terriers have recorded 16 of the 21 shutouts between the crosstown rivals, with their most recent one coming in the 2022 Beanpot title game. 

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

  • Northeastern began the season 3-7-1 but has gone 3-2-1 since the start of December.
  • That includes a 3-3 tie with Quinnipiac on Saturday in Boston.
  • Freshman Dylan Hryckowian scored Northeastern's NCAA-leading seventh shorthanded goal of the season with 8:30 remaining in regulation to force overtime.
  • Sophomore Jack Williams scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season against the Bobcats.
  • Williams is tied with senior Alex Campbell (9g, 9a) for the team lead with 18 points.
  • Junior Justin Hryckowian picked up his team-best 11th assist of the year with the lone helper on his brother's equalizer against Quinnipiac.
  • Freshman goaltender Cameron Whitehead has started all 16 of his appearances, going 6-8-2 with a 2.72 GAA and a .909 save percentage.
