Women’s Basketball Heads to Harvard on Saturday

BOSTON – Fresh off finals week in the fall semester, the Boston University women's basketball program makes its way across town to face Harvard on Saturday (Dec. 21). Opening tip is set for Noon.
 
BU (5-4) aims to boost its road winning streak to three games. The Terriers have allowed 55 points in each of its first couple of games during the run. Three of its four road matchups were decided by single digits.
 
Harvard (10-1), who is receiving votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Women's College Basketball Poll, hasn't played in two weeks. The Crimson are 4-0 at Lavietes Pavilion this season.
 
Saturday's game airs on ESPN+. Harvard Athletics will provide live statistics and an international stream.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers defeated UMass Lowell on the road, 62-55, back on Dec. 12.
  • BU outscored the River Hawks 21-11 in the fourth quarter and scored 36 points in the paint.
  • Freshman Allison Schwertner posted her first collegiate double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Senior Alex Giannaros and sophomore Bella McLaughlin added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
  • For the second consecutive week, Schwertner was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. She leads the conference with three selections on the campaign.
  • Earlier this week, Maren Durant (SAR'23) signed a professional contract with BG 89 Avides Hurricanes out of the German 2 Bundesliga.
  • Six of BU's last seven games have been decided by single digits. The Terriers are 4-2 in such contests.
  • Giannaros needs one three-pointer to match Maggie Pina (CAS'23) for fifth place in program history and 10 field goals to reach 400 in her career. 
SCOUTING HARVARD
  • The Crimson received three votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Women's College Basketball Poll on Monday (Dec. 16).
  • Harvard is 10-1 on the year, last playing Rhode Island in a 60-48 win back on Dec. 7.
  • The Crimson have won eight straight games, last losing on Nov. 10 at Quinnipiac.
  • Harmoni Turner leads the team with 21.4 points per game along with 42 assists and 37 steals. Elena Rodriguez averages 12.1 points per game.
  • Harvard was projected to finish third in the Ivy League's preseason poll, earning one first place vote.
  • Last season, the Crimson went 16-12 and 9-5 in conference play to reach the opening round of Ivy Madness.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday marks the 39th all-time meeting between BU and Harvard in a series that began in 1976.
  • The Crimson sport a 22-16 advantage in the rivalry and boast an 11-5 record on home court.
  • Harvard has won seven of the last eight matchups.
  • BU won the last meeting, however, an 80-77 triumph at Case Gym on Dec. 9, 2023.
  • Caitlin Weimar led BU with 29 points and 10 rebounds, while Giannaros posted 20 points and seven assists. Audrey Ericksen provided 17 points, including the go-ahead jumper with 31 seconds left in regulation.

  • The Terriers conclude non-conference play and the 2024 calendar year with a trip to Yale on Sunday (Dec. 29). Opening tip is slated for 2 p.m.
