BOSTON - With just two weekends left in the regular season, the Boston University women's ice hockey team will hit the road for key Hockey East games against Vermont and Merrimack.
The Terriers will visit the Catamounts on Friday (Jan. 16) for a 2 p.m. contest before a game at Merrimack on Saturday (Jan. 17) that starts at 4 p.m. BU enters the weekend one point behind Vermont in the Hockey East standings and three points ahead of Merrimack.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is coming off a 3-1 home loss to Maine last Friday.
- The Terriers are averaging 6.0 shots more per game than their opponents this season. At this time last year, BU had a minus-7.0 shot differential, resulting in a plus-13.0 swing one year later.
- Senior Lacey Martin leads the team in both goals (13) and points (23).
- Sophomore Clara Yuhn (7g, 11a) and senior Catherine Foulem (10g, 8a) have each recorded 18 points.
- Graduate student Nadia Mattii (3g, 13a) and sophomore Sydney Healey (7g, 7a) have added 16 and 14 points, respectively.
- Freshman Alex Law, the runner-up for Hockey East Rookie of the Month in December, has 11 points (2g, 8a) in her past 15 games but missed the past two weekends due to injury.
- Graduate student Alexa Matses (5-7-1, 2.54, .898) and freshman Mari Pietersen (5-2-1, 2.85, .864) shared time in goal for the first three months of the season but junior Callie Shanahan (2-5-1, 2.29, .910) returned from injury in January and has started in eight of the past 11 games.
- Led by Mattivi and senior Tamara Giaquinto (2g, 9a), BU has five of the top 24 defenders in Hockey East in points this season.
- The Terriers are second in Hockey East in penalty kill at 91.2%, which is good for fourth in the nation.
- The Terriers are also second in the league in faceoff percentage at 53.6%, which ranks 12th in the country.
- BU, Wisconsin and Ohio State are the only teams in the nation to have five defenders with at least nine points apiece.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
- Vermont is undefeated in its past five contests (2-0-3) although two of the three ties resulted in shootout losses.
- The Catamounts are coming off a road weekend that saw them earn ties at Boston College and Providence while splitting the shootouts (L vs. BC, W vs. PC).
- The Catamounts' top win this season came against then-No. 11 St. Lawrence back on Oct. 13.
- Senior Natalie Mlynkova leads UVM in both points (30) and goals (17) and she has seven points, including five goals, over the past four games.
- Sophomore defender Krista Parkkonen has 19 points on the strength of a squad-best 14 assists while junior Evelyne Blais-Savoie (7g, 11a), graduate student Lily Humphrey (4g, 14a) and sophomore Lara Beecher (9g, 9a) each have 18 points.
- The Catamounts lead all Hockey East teams in shooting percentage at .102.
- Graduate student Sara Levesque has 63 blocked shots, which ranks sixth in the nation and first in Hockey East.
- Senior Jessie McPherson has 21 starts in goal this season and currently has a 2.46 goals-against average and an .897 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
- Merrimack has had a strong February, winning three of four games.
- The Warriors split a home-and-home series with New Hampshire last week with the road team winning each contest.
- Grad transfers Celine Tedenby leads the team in points with 21 on seven goals and 14 assists while fellow grad transfer Mary Edmonds (5g, 10a) and freshman Maria Lindberg (8g, 7a) have each recorded 15 points.
- Sophomore Sophie McKinley is right behind with 14 points, including a team-best three power-play goals.
- Sophomore Calli Hogarth has started 29 of the team's 30 games in goal and currently has a .908 save percentage and 2.67 goals-against average.
SERIES HISTORY VS. VERMONT
- The Terriers are 41-11-8 all-time against the Catamounts, including an 18-7-2 record at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
- BU has taken 10 of the last 14 meetings with the Catamounts and is 11-3-2 in its past 16 games against Vermont.
- Last season, the teams split a home-and-home weekend in Vermont before BU earned a home win to win the season series.
SERIES HISTORY VS. MERRIMACK
- The Terriers are 17-4-5 against the Warriors including a 7-2-2 mark at Lawler Rink.
- BU is 11-2-5 in the past 17 meetings and has won the past four regular-season contests in the series.

- The Terriers will close the regular season next weekend with a home-and-home series against No. 11 UConn.
