The Boston University field hockey team returns to action on Friday (Sept. 5) when it hosts Vermont at New Balance Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers are at home for six of their first seven games this season.
- BU opened its season on Aug. 29 with a 3-2 loss to Providence in a game that was decided by a shootout.
- Senior Martu Coulo and junior Nicole Lauro, who both earned spots on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, recorded goals against the Friars.
- Sophomore Abbey Chun made seven saves versus Providence in her collegiate debut.
- Junior Maggie Driscoll and sophomore Shea Freda picked up defensive saves in the opener,
- Senior Natalie Epperson is the leading returner in points (8) and goals (4) while classmate Megan Wetzel had a team-best seven assists last season.
- BU was picked fourth in the Patriot League preseason poll.
- Coulo, Lauro and juniors Maggie Driscoll and Olivia Hammer were all named to the NFHCA Division I Watchlist.
- The Terriers welcomed a six-member freshman class with student-athletes from Argentina, Northern Ireland, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maine and Connecticut.
- Seniors Maddie Hudson and Celia Nocivelli are serving as co-captains this season.
- Sally Starr is in her 45th season as head coach of the Terriers.Â
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
- Vermont opened its 2025 campaign with a pair of 2-0 home losses against No. 14 Massachusetts and No. 16 Rutgers.
- The Catamounts, the defending America East champions, were picked second in conference's preseason coaches' poll.Â
- Senior Sophia Lefranc and sophomore netminder Merle Vaandrager were named to the preseason all-conference team.
- Lefranc is the team's leading returning scorer after putting up 20 points on eight goals and four assists in 2024.
- Vaandrager posted a .789 save percentage and 1.11 goals-against average as a freshman last season.
- After Friday's contest, Vermont will travel to Staten Island to face Wagner on Sunday.
SERIES HISTORY VS. UVM
- The Terriers are 32-4-1 all-time against UVM and have won eight of the past nine meetings.
- The last time the teams faced off was in the 2023 season as then-sophomore Caroline O'Brien capped a hat-trick performance in double overtime to lead the Terriers to a 4-3 road win.
