Sophomore Aliyah Huerta-Leipner led the two-time defending Patriot League champion Terriers with a .333 batting average, 18 runs scored, 18 RBIs, four homers, a triple and .591 slugging percentage. The Santa Barbara, California, native added seven walks, three doubles and a pair of hit-by-pitches to finish with a .408 on-base percentage.
A 2019 All-PL Second Team and 2020 Preseason All-PL honoree, Huerta-Leipner went 2-of-3 with two runs and an RBI to help BU win the season opener against defending Southland Conference champion Sam Houston State, 9-3. She later recorded an RBI single and solo homer in an 8-0(5) victory over three-time defending Southern Conference regular season champion UNC Greensboro, as the Terriers started a season 8-0 for the first time in program history.
Other highlights included a two-run homer and inning-ending throw to home from center in a 2-1 win against Marist along with an RBI double at then-No. 21 Arkansas. She now owns 11 career homers, just four shy of cracking the top 10 in the BU record book, and currently sits at tied-for-fourth all-time with a .510 slugging percentage.
“AJ was the offensive catalyst of our program this season,” said head coach Ashley Waters. “She led the team in almost every offensive category. She showed great maturity and poise at the plate. She is a quiet leader with loud results and is one of the hardest working athletes in our program. I am incredibly proud of the start she had this season.”
