Boston, MA (April 11) - Boston University's women's tennis team had its nine-game win streak snapped Tuesday, April 11, as they fell to rival Boston College, 5-2.
BU's last loss came on March 19th in an 8-1 defeat to Florida International University.
The Terriers found themselves playing from behind early as their usually dominant doubles teams dropped two of three matches, awarding BC the one doubles point. Sophomore Christina Causeway (Wilson, NC) and Senior Christine Cerretani (Reading, MA) lost 8-5 to Cindy Tow and Kiren Fernando at one and Sophomore Carrie Rose (Bloomfield, MI) and Freshman Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) fell to the BC tandem of Jess Engle and Anisha Fernand, 8-5, at the third position.
The only Terrier bright spot at doubles came at the second position as Seniors Karina Shostakovksy (Atlanta, GA) and Selin Nassi (Fort Lauderdale, FL) defeated Barbara Privel and Mercedes Del Valle.
The day was just as bleak on the singles end as the Eagles took four of the six matches. BC's Tow defeated Nassi at the one position, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 while Causway fell to BC's Privel 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1. Boston College's Fernando defeated Shostakovsky 7-6, 6-4 at the third position.
BU managed a victory at the fourth position as Rose defeated Ruta Veitas 7-6, 6-4. At five, Del Valle defeated Cerrertani, 6-2, 6-0 while BU's Alana Marcu defeated the Eagle's Kim Arbuckle 6-3, 6-1 at the sixth position.
All of the Terrier victories came after the match had already been decided.
As reported in the Daily Free Press, "We played okay, but Boston College just came out strongly and more intense. They just upped their game more than we did," said Boston University head coach Lesley Sheehan.
The match was the Terriers last chance for fine-tuning before entering the America East Championships on April 28.
