The top-seeded Terrier women's tennis team, looking for its seventh straight America East team title, had little trouble in disposing of eighth-seeded Drexel, 9-0, in the opening match of the league tournament on April 20th.
Playing at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY, the Terriers swept to straight-set wins in the six singles matches as well as the three doubles matchups.
In the singles play, number one Selin Nassi (Fort Lauderdale, FL), defeated Julia Litvak, 6-1, 6-2; number two Christina Causway (Wilson, NC) blanked Julie Bonner, 6-0, 6-0; number three Karina Shostakovsky (Atlanta, GA), defeated Leah Fasenmyer, 6-0, 6-2; number four Carrie Rose (Bloomfield Hills, MI) defeated Lynn Pigliacampi, 6-0, 6-1; number five Chrissy Cerretani (Reading, MA) blanked Beth Childs, 6-0, 6-0; and number six Alma Marcu (Leonia, NJ) shut out Samara Porter, 6-0, 6-0.
Playing a pro set in the doubles competition, Causway and Cerretani defeated Litvak and Fasenmyer, 8-4, at number one; Nassi and Shostakovsky bested Bonner and Piglicampi, 8-4, at number two; and Rose and Marcu eliminated Childs and Heather Hamm, 8-1.
