PROVIDENCE, RI - Senior Lindsey Dynof's (Colts Neck, NJ) commendable performance boasted well for the Boston University women's tennis team as it competed at the 2003 Brown Invitational Tournament, held at Brown University's Pizzitola Sports Center on October 3-5, 2003.
Dynof turned out a laudable performance for the Terriers over the weekend, defeating Syracuse's Ashley Lipton (7-5; 6-2) and pushing past Loyola-Marymount's Carla Arguelles (6-3; 6-5) to the final match of the Flight A Singles. Dynof forced the final match into a tiebreaker where Temple University's Ana Maslesa was able to elicit the victory (4-5; 6-1; 7.)
In the Flight B Singles, senior Elisa Glas (Irun, Spain) defeated Katie Bramante of Syracuse University 6-4 and 7-5 before falling to Alex Arlak of Brown University, 6-3 and 6-1. Glas also pushed all the way to the semi-final round of the Flight B Consolation tournament, trouncing Robyn Baker of Loyola-Marymount 0-6 and 6-2 with a tiebreaker of 7. Glas fought hard but was unable to obtain a win over Boston College's Amy Molden, who defeated Glas 6-1 and 6-0 in the semi-final round.
In the Flight B Doubles competition, the Terrier team of senior Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) and sophomore Zuzana Melicherova (Caracas, Venezuela) brushed past the Schlosser/Bramante team of Syracuse University 8-5, subsequently defeating Seton Hall's Figueroa and Zamot 9-7. DeMendoza and Melicherova faced Alford and Kim of Yale University in the final round, who were able to claim the victory by default. Dynof came up big for the Terriers again with teammate freshman Erin Katims (Boca Raton, FL) in the Flight A Consolation Doubles tournament, reaching the final round, but suffering an 8-1 defeat by Barfuss and Isaza of Seton Hall. Terriers Glas and sophomore Monica Shepherd (Austin, TX) pushed past Jogi and Gerka of Seton Hall 8-3 before falling to Boston College's Nash and Landes 8-3 in the quarter final of the Flight C Doubles.
Next, the women's tennis team will venture to New York City this weekend to compete in the USTA National Tennis Center Invitational.
