October 7, 2005

First place in the America East will be up for grabs tonight when the league-leading Boston University women???s soccer team (7-4-3, 3-0-1 America East) takes on second-place Binghamton (7-5-2, 3-1). The Terriers, fresh off a 3-0 drubbing at Albany on Thursday look to remain hot heading down the stretch, as they have lost just once in their last nine games (5-1-3 in that span). Meanwhile, Binghamton, the 2004 league champ, has found its stride, punishing three straight opponents by a 3-0 score after dropping its conference opener.

The Terriers have been dominating since America East play began, outscoring foes by a combined score of 8-1 in four games. Prior to the offensive awakening, BU had managed just nine goals in its first 10 games of the season. BU is out-shooting its four America East opponents by a whopping 92-29 margin, and in all games, the Terriers have outshot the enemy 253-107. Senior forward Meghann Cook (Melrose, Mass.) has been white hot in the last week, registering four goals in her last two games. She now leads the Terriers in all three scoring categories, with with 18 points, 7 goals and 4 assists. With an assist tonight she will own the career assist record at BU, a mark she and Stacy Schwartz ???98 are currently tied with at 22. Cook has also surged to second on the Terrier career points list with 74, trailing only Deidre Enos ???01, who had 121.

Cook is not alone, as her supporting cast includes senior forward Melissa Shulman (Huntington, N.Y.) - 9 points, 4 goals - and senior back Susan Marschall (Baton Rouge, La.) - 6 points, 3 goals. Two Terriers earned their first career assists in Thursday???s win at Albany, as junior Paula Moniz (Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Mara Osher (Rockville, Md.) made passes which led to goals. Between the pipes, the two-headed monster of Stephanie Dreyer (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Christina Reuter (Madison, Wisc.) continues to be the impenetrable anchor of the Terrier defense, as the duo have combined for a 0.68 GAA and six shutouts.

Binghamton is coached by Jeff Leightman, and is led by Danielle White who has team-highs of 6 goals and 14 points. Kelly Burnham has 11 points (5G, 1A) and in goal, the Bearcats are led by Kristie Bowers (7-4-2, 0.85 GAA, 6 shutouts). BU is 2-1 all-time against Binghamton.
