BOSTON – The Boston University women’s tennis team put up another pair of wins over the weekend, sweeping New Hampshire, 7-0, on Saturday, and topping Columbia, 5-2, on Sunday at the Track & Tennis Center. With the victories, the Terriers improved to 5-1 on the season.
On Friday versus the Wildcats, the top doubles duo of senior captain Monica Shepherd (Austin, Texas) and freshman Cori Lefkowith (Clayton, Mo.) started the Terrier win streak with an 8-5 win over Olivia Fleszar and Lauren Howard. At No. 2, junior Erin Katims (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Yana Sadovskaya combined for an 8-3 victory over Tiffany Heineman and Lensey Dixon. Senior Aimee Charest (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Katie Draganova (Coral Springs, Fla.) closed out doubles action with a convincing 8-1 win over Sarah Wohlfarth and Sarah Rice.
In singles, Katims topped Fleszar at number one, 6-1, 6-4, before Sadovskaya posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Dixon at number two. Senior Laura Ahmes (Sarasota, Fla.) captured a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Heineman, Lefkowith won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 versus Howard and Draganova beat Rice at No. 5, 6-3, 6-2. Wrapping up the win was Shepherd with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 over Wolhfarth.
After their fourth 7-0 win of the season on Friday, the Terriers followed it up with a 5-2 win versus Columbia on Saturday.
Sophomore Gina Sabatino (Waltham, Mass.) paired with Shepherd for an 8-1 win at number one doubles over Milena Kachar and Kara Worsley. Katims and Sadovskaya played again in the second slot for an 8-4 victory over Marlena Hall and Nina Suda. Finally, freshman Danielle Abraham (Waukesha, Wis.) and Lefkowith earned an 8-5 win at No. 3 over Eunice Chao and Angela Hendry.
Sabatino and Katims increased BU’s lead to 3-0 with wins at one and two singles, respectively. Sabatino won 6-0, 6-4 versus Kachar and Katims won 6-1, 6-0 against Hendry. After Ahmes fell to Sydney Murry, 6-2, 6-2 in the third spot, Sadovskaya beat Molly Condit, 6-1, 6-2 and Lefkowith topped Suda, 6-1, 6-0 to seal the win.
The Terriers return to action on Thursday versus Southern Alabama at 3:00 p.m.
