HAMDEN, Conn. – Upping its win streak to four matches, the Boston University women’s tennis team used the doubles point plus a singles split to edge Quinnipiac University, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon. The freshmen again proved to be crucial in the Terrier victory, as Cori Lefkowith (Clayton, Mo.) and Danielle Abraham (Waukesha, Wis.) each won their singles matches, while combining for one of two BU doubles wins to help the team improve to 13-5 on the season.
After the seasoned doubles duo of junior Erin Katims (Boca Raton, Fla.) and senior Laura Ahmes (Sarasota, Fla.) earned an 8-6 win at second doubles over Quinnipiac’s Amada Petruzzi and Jackie Herb, Abraham and Lefkowith secured the point by posting an 8-4 triumph over Danielle Rodriguez and Jackie Visinski.
Taking the 1-0 lead into singles play, the Terriers were overcome in the first three match-ups, before Lefkowith, Abraham and senior Aimee Charest (Sarasota, Fla) won at third through sixth singles for the 4-3 score.
Lefkowith topped Petruzzi, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4, followed by Abraham taking down Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 and Charest earning the 6-1, 6-2 win over Kasey Rosenberger at No. 6.
The Terriers will next travel up Commonwealth Avenue to face Boston College on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
