New Haven, Conn. - The Boston University women's tennis team will compete in the 2007 America East Championships held on the campus of Yale University this weekend. The Terriers, who have won each of the 13 previous America East Women’s Tennis Championships and 17 of the 18 title events in league history, is again the top seed on the women’s side.
BU, which finished the regular season 11-5, begins play on Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. against the winner of #4 Stony Brook and #5 Albany.
Binghamton University is the second seed, followed by UMBC. Stony Brook University is the No. 4 seed, while University at Albany is seeded No. 5. and with No. 6 University of Hartford rounding out the women’s field.
BU is led by senior co-captain Erin Katims (Boca Raton, Fla.), who earned AE Tournament MVP honors in 2006. She has a 14-12 record in singles play and has played the majority of her doubles matches with freshman Francine Whu (Staten Island, N.Y.).
Sophomore Cori Lefkowith (Clayton, Mo.) and freshman Rebecca Row (Austin, Tex.) are two rising stars for the Terriers. Lefkowith had an excellent season for BU and turned in a 20-7 overall singles record. She lost just one match all spring season. Row is 19-5 going into this weekend's tournament. Her 19 singles victories are the second most on the team behind Lefkowith.
