Men's Soccer Earns 2-0 Win Over URI

BOSTON - The Boston University men's soccer team used two first-half goals from juniors Neil Hlavaty (Lombard, Ill.) and Petur Sigurdsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) to post a 2-0 win over host Rhode Island on Friday evening at the URI Soccer Complex in front of a crowd of 1,121.

Sigurdsson notched his third goal of the season, and the eventual game winner, when he headed in a pass from classmate Jin Oh (Dededo, Guam) at 30:15. Hlavaty added an insurance goal at 44:35 when he sent a free kick from just outside the box past Rhody keeper Chris Pennock.

The Terriers' 2-0 halftime lead stood up despite six second-half Ram shots.

BU goalie Hrafn Davidsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) made five saves to Pennock's two as Davidsson recorded his second shutout of the season. URI out-shot the Terriers 13-10 and held a 6-3 corner kick advantage.

BU finishes up September with another Atlantic 10 foe, UMass, on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.
